Hi Everybody,
I know I don't post very often on here and for that I am sorry
My Leroy is just going through a rough time right now and I didn't know if any of you have been through anything similar or not and I just thought I would share and see if anybody may have any advice or anything. I may be over-reacting
but here goes:
So Leroy has been having issues every so often with throwing up and or reguritating food. There were sometimes too where his stomach would be making a gurgling noise too. Sometimes it seemed like he was having issues almost daily. other times it was like he would go a couple weeks, be perfectly fine and then all of a sudden he would be getting sick again. Also we saw his first head tremors back in June 2013 (scary! ) but we did our research on them and while they don't freak me out so much anymore I feel really bad for the little guy and do try to distract him with a treat and lots of cuddles when this happens. it seems to occur once every couple of months or so. I have changed his food a handful of times (and yes a slow transition every time) assuming that it's just not the right food (have tried Fromm's, Royal Canin, and Nature's Vareity Instinct), have taken him to the vet to get advice about his allergies and about his food. I would get medicine for his allergies and really no answers about his food and stomach issues. The vets would tell me to feed him the amount that's on the bag (which I know is usually too much and when I have tried to do that he ends up with diarreha). Here the past few days he was vomiting up pretty much everything he ate, also had diarreha too. He did have an appetite though so after about 12 hours of letting his stomach rest I fed him small amounts of the bland diet (rice and ground sirloin) every couple of hours or so. Thursday evening he seemed to be doing better. but when I went to work on Friday my family told me that he was vomiting and
had liquid diarreha while I was at work. So I made an appt for him to go to the vet's on Saturday because I just thought that this had gone on way too long. I was hoping they would give me some medicine for him and tell me he had some type of flu or something. Well when we got there and I put him on the scale it said he only weighed 39 lbs! He is almost 2! He was 45 lbs the last time we went which was 03/15/14 so in less than a month he lost 5 lbs! I thought that was crazy! I was thinking that him being sick for a few days shouldn't have made him lose 5 lbs. when he was 45 lbs the vet did say he was a little
underweight and that we needed to get that weight up. I was trying to feed him a little more to do that and also giving him a couple more peanutbutter kongs per week. anyway, long story short here the vet said he was worried b/c of the 5 lb weight loss and the fact that it looks like he lost muscle tone too.
He wanted to do some blood tests b/c one set of Leroy's lymph nodes is also swollen. so they said they would call me back today with the results. Leroy seems to be feeling better, I have not seen any more vomit, his stools are getting firmer and we even went for a walk today. The vet called me and told me that Leroy's globulin levels are a little high and that this could mean a lot of things. one of the things he mentioned was cancer. but he is not sure so he said he will have to talk to some specialists vets he knows and get back with me tomrrow. I did my own research online about this, it says there are a range of reasons why a dog's globulin levels could be high (allergies, stress, dehydration, CANCER,...etc). So basically I am scared and I am just waiting for the results. Leroy is just too young to be so sick, makes me sad to think about him possibly having cancer. if anybody has any input or advice I would really appreciate it. Thanks
