4 month old with cherry eye

Dozer has had it popping out for a few weeks now...usually when he's chewing on a toy or playing hard. Both eyes, but one more than the other. I've been able to gently massage it back in each time. Well yesterday it popped out and it's stayed out. And it looks very red and is protruding out pretty far. I have a vet appt at 3 today. This vet tacked then had to remove them on my Boston Terrier. He does have experience with English Bulldogs. Anyway, I wanted to get y'alls opionins on what I should do? I'm not getting him neutered until he's a year old. Surgery worries me, but I don't want to go 8 months with him having cherry eye, to wait and do it during the neuter. I've been putting an antibiotic ointment in his eye, but I think they put them on a steroid eye ointment? Can't stand to think it's hurting him. He's not rubbing at it or anything, but the eye sure looks angry. Wish vet woulda had a morning appt time!

Wish I could help but I haven't had this issue. From the stories that I have read some folks have waited until they spayed/neutered to have it corrected to keep from putting them under more than once, but i am not an expert by any means.

Lockjaws cherry eye popped out and stayed out since November (he was 6 months old).We also had the antibiotic/steroid cream and it didn't do anything. We also wanted to wait until his neuter to get it fixed. I just always make sure his eye is clean and if it looks red I put a few eye drops and wipe some ointment on it. Otherwise, it really doesn't seem to bother him. It's just a little embarrassing on my end when we go places and people ask you "Awww, what's wrong with his eye", "ewww, his eye", or "are you going to fix that?!?". So then I have to go through the whole thing of getting him neutered at a year and not wanting to put him down more than he needs. Time will go by faster than it seems and before you know it, it'll get fixed and be a thing of the past. As of now his surgery is scheduled for 24 March. I also wanted to wait it out a few months anyway just in case one popped out on the other eye (which never happened).
I felt all the emotions u do. But everything I read and even advice from the vet- it doesn't hurt them, just maybe a bit annoying. It just looks worse than what it is.

I am sorry if I sound uninformed but have tried pushing it in? Our bulldog breeder showed us on day one how to push them back in. If you tried this and it's popping immediately back out then it sounds like only a vet can assist. If you haven't tried it's really easy to do. Calm them, move your index finger toward eye and they immediately close lid. When lids closed depress the lid inward and then down at spot where cherry eye was. You can almost feel it pop back under the socket. Release pressure and take away your finger. When the eye opens the cherry eye is gone.

Again I say this all if you haven't been shown and think once it pops out it can't be touched....

We see a cherry eye once every couple of days. Push it in and back to normal. When Lulu was a puppy it was scary but now it's a small issue.

The vet popped it back in but it was out again by the time we got home. It's so big, it's hard for me to get it to go back in. It's really red and inflamed. He's got steroid ointment I'm to put in every 2 hours. he is acting like it bothers him now. I'll wait and see how much the ointment helps. If it doesn't get a lot better, I'm going ahead with surgery. He's under less than 5 minutes. He clips off about 1/3 of it. This is what it looks like tonight...ouch!

Oh yes, people at the vet's office were all freaking out over his icky eye. I assured them it looks worse than it really is and shouldn't hurt. I actually do think it's bothering him tonight though. He rubbed it a couple times and he looks way up, tilting his head back...I think it's so swollen it's in his line of vision. I can't stand thinking he's in pain or discomfort.

That definedly looks so inflamed that it need to have surgery if that ointment doesn't help. It will not stay in anymore. That can cause all kind of problems to the eye if not treated properly. My baby boy had his other eye tucked at 5 months old and it there was no problems. Anesthesia is always a risk at any age, but so is that cherry eye. Remember to use a bulldog specialised Opthomologist.

Initially we were able to massage Lockjaw's back in. Then one day it decided it didn't want to be tucked in anymore. Hopefully the ointment will help reduce it a bit. Lockjaw's hasn't changed in size since it popped out.
I think whatever your decision for your baby is going to be a good one. You know him best. Good luck with everything and keep us updated!

My vet doesn't like it when they have to have surgery for cherry eye, but sometimes you don't have a choice. I'm going back in today to see what we need to do. It looks even worse this morning! My vet has experience with English Bulldogs and there is another vet in town that specializes in eye surgeries. They worked together before on my Chihuahua's eyes, so they'll probably both do the surgery on Dozer.
