What Causes This Reddish Brown Discoloration

Very informative @paw7004 Thank you.

Regarding tomatoes, it does contain carotenoids as lutein n lycopene. It basically protects the eye against light damage. It also has other minerals great for eye protection. Wonā€™t hurt to feed tomatoes.šŸ‘

Alkaline and purified water does not have fluoride in it. I believe thatā€™s Spring Water.

Yes, Iā€™m excited to try the bowl and did order it off Amazon. Hopefully this will help with the sloppy wet drinking that Bulldogs do, especially since you noticed their mouths stay dry.
Did you get the bowl? If so, what do you think about it?

Hello EB family. Iā€™m new to this site and came here in hopes of getting some advice/tips/suggestions and learning what this reddish brown discoloration is on my boy Kingdom. His eyes water from allergies and he has bad tear stains and now the brown discoloration is taking over his face. Any suggestions on how to eliminate this will be so helpful. For informational purposes, he eat farmers dog, their turkey and beef. We used to cook for him but that was a lot of work and I was worried he was missing nutrients. Heā€™s allergic to chicken I believe because heā€™s itchy when he eat that so I eliminated that protein. He was on Acana duck limited ingredient but he was pooā€™n like a horse. I read on this site it could be an overgrowth of yeast or bacteria infection. If this is the case, how do we get rid of it?

My boy is on Acana Duck and Pumpkin Wholesome Grainsā€¦ been a solid 1.5 weeks after transitioning and has loose stools ā€œSoft serve ice cream styleā€ no diarrhea.

Did you ever solve the poop issue was it like mine? I was going to run through my current bag and try lamb and pumpkinā€¦ maybe duck is just to much

Mostly all dogs will have loose stools in most transitions and very normal. Itā€™s only been 1.5weeks. Why you can also do is add organic pumpkin purĆ©e. NOT the one you cook with. Only one ingredient, pumpkin.

And how many cups you feeding per day?

I actually do only 2 cups a day 1 cup AM 1 cup PM itā€™s on the lowest side of feeding, I wanted to start at the lowest level prior to possibly moving up.

I also do 1 Zesty Probiotic daily for now to help

Tebow went back on Victor Pro food after the recall ended. He did well on it before. But they changed their formula & he was a mess so I went with Open Farm Whitefish and Ancient Grains. He loved it but the poops were rather soft and difficult to clean up in the yard. While attending the BCA Nationals last November, Lucy Foods, a sponsor of the Bulldog Club of America, did a presentation on their food. The owner used to run Natural Balance, sold it off and later started Lucy. I got a bag of their chicken formula to try it out. A friend that I trust as she's a nutrition buff, noted that the chicken formula doesn't have legumes, which is important to her, & the other proteins did. Voila! Not only does Tebow like it, the 'remnants' are firm and easy to scoop up. His coat is great, no signs of any allergies or stomach upset. I forgot to write down the code they gave us so we could get a discount as BCA members if we order directly from Lucy, darn it. However, it is available on Chewy at a reasonable price.
I see that you said your pup was on an Acana product. The feed store where I used to get Open Farm quit carrying Acana products a year or so again due to complaints of customers' dogs getting a little sick (no specifics were offered) or refusing to eat it. Acana had changed their formula unbeknownst apparently. So the feed store thought that was enough to not carry it. Oh, Lucy's president said that he went back into the dog food business because he bought his own factory. It is used only by Lucy, no other manufacturer so he can be sure there is no contamination. Also, Tebow's tear stains are minimal. I did stop the distilled drinking water (budget cuts) & no increase in tear stains. He still loves his 3 cherry tomatoes at snack time. :-)

Awesome information!!!

Unfortunately I just looked they only have Duck which Iā€™m still not 100% sure aboutā€¦ no lamb or Turkey

Iā€™m think of doing the Open Farm Turkey and Ancient Grainsā€¦ he use to eat PPTurkey Oatmeal Sensitive Skin Stomach but just stopped eating it and became always tired.

Did you find Open Farm a solid choice other then loose poops?

I think Tebow liked the Open Farm. The poops were formed but soft and just slimy when scooping up. More gross for me than him. LOL

Ha!

Right now Iā€™m 1.5 weeks into Acana Duck and Pumpkin Wholesome Grains, his poop is more like soft serve ice cream style. Idk if itā€™s the fat content and high fiber or the duck.

Millie is on open farm turkey and her poops are a little soft. Softer than Bethā€™s who is on the salmon. But itā€™s been that way no matter what food they are on

@paw7004 the coupon code is bca20 I think. I will ask Kathy.

Have any issues with the product overall?

Nope I really like open farm. I would have switched to Lucy because of their mission statement and BCA discount but Millie canā€™t have chicken and Iā€™m not going to put her on a legume diet.

They have legume free donā€™t they?

I didnā€™t see any but apparently the chicken is. Millie doesnā€™t do well on chicken

This one Iā€™m getting, has other flavors and no legume
