Bogey is now 9 months, weighs 45 lbs, and is such a character!! He is completely housebroken and no longer uses his crate. He has complete freedom which he loves! However, our little man had a very rough week. It started with diarrhea- a LOT of it! And very bloody to boot!! i was totally freaked out! He was also covered in a red rash on his abdomen. So, we took him in to the vet and he was diagnosed not only with a severe bacterial infection ( she said his poop was full of bacteria) but she also found a suspicious patch under his chin on his neck which turned out to be dermodex mange! The bacteria they think is from the rainwater he has been playing in, and I am sure, drinking too! The mange is only on one spot that we can see. So, he is on 3 antibiotics, medicated baths every 3 days, and a new regiment of probiotics to help boost his immune system. She feels his immune system is still too immature to ward off the bacteria and the mites. Thankfully, if he has to have mange, it's the kind that is not contagious to other dogs. So, I am keeping him away from the doggie parks( they really are a haven for bacteria) and away from his beloved puddles- at least for awhile. He is otherwise a very happy little pup and is just loved by anyone he meets!
