Upset

Sorry I haven’t kept you all up to date.

Lola finished the antibiotics, and has since started eating which has calmed me down.

She is her normal self.
The bald patch on her back now has fur growing back slowly.
But she is still loosing clumps of furr, and has dry skin.

We decided to keep her off royal canine, and she now eats
AVA skin and joints kibble from Pets at home.

I will be taking her back to the vets next week.
But they wanted me to have tests for dust mites.
Which even they admitted, is expensive and may not get a definite result. (Pointless?)

I have also started mixed pure omega fish oil in with her food.
I know I shouldn’t expect a result overnight solution.

I’ll attach a picture. 00D951C0-29DD-40AE-B86B-2A91A375942C.jpeg

I think it’s something I’m going to have to have done.

The original bald spot has now got a lot of hair growing back which is good.

The bald spot did spread more on her back.
But I don’t think it’s since we last visited the vet.

I’ll book her in next week.
But it’s looking like it’s something we are just going to have
to ride out.

She is currently sat next to me, staring at me with her tongue
out, waiting for me to take her to bed :’)

Sweet girl... hope she gets well soon

Thank you for the advice.

My girlfriend wants to try this kibble

https://www.petsathome.com/shop/en/pets/ava-veterinary-approved-adult-sensitive-dog-food-15kg

She has seen a lot of good reviews regarding it.

Lola did suffer with this skin issue before. She had a large bald spot next to her tail.
She had antibiotics and it cleared up. But the vet we saw has since retired. And I find it incredibly difficult to trust a vet in this day and age when the majority just want your money.

Since starting this topic, Lola has spent the night running around the house playing with her toys..
I honestly don’t think she is ā€˜unwell’ and she managed to eat some food before giving up.

She will happily eat slices of ham that we use to give her medication.
She will happily go for walks, and other exercise.

If I’m honest I am having a difficult time lately, and the only reason I Lola was to give her a good life and I feel as though I’m failing. Hate seeing her like this.

I recall a year ago we had the same discussion. Sorry Lola isn’t healing. :( That being said, again if you want to stick to kibbles, in U.K. you have Acana. Get the Duck one. The one your g/f wants to get has chicken fat. That’s a big no no and another no no that’s in that bag is Fructooligosaccharides....also sometimes called oligofructose or oligofructan, are oligosaccharide fructans, used as an alternative sweetener. FOS exhibits sweetness levels between 30 and 50 percent of sugar in commercially prepared syrups. Any form of sugars is not good for any dog especially if they have skin issues. Where Lola sits, it’s no brainer, simply go raw. It’s over a year now so her immune system is shot. Completely shot. Antibiotics is killing all her good gut flora. On daily basis, in one of her meals per day, get her fermented sauerkraut or fermented veggies, kefir, organic turmeric with a pinch of black pepper..... add it to a meal. If I’m not mistaken you couldn’t find Duck. If they don’t carry Duck, email them and ask. If none go with pork or beef or lamb.... https://www.acanapetfoods.co.uk/where-to-buy/. U.K. has fantastic corner butchers. Do a few and ask them if they do raw dog food. It’s not give a steak n we’re done. Needs to be balanced.

If your dog has dust mite allergies then you would have to buy her kibble food in small size bags and freeze the portions in zip lock bags that you aren't using. Would be easier to switch to frozen raw dog food since it would eliminate dust mite allergies plus other food allergies if you stick with low allergen proteins. Many of the members here have paid big vet bills for years for antibiotics and immune system depressants and then have switched to frozen raw and eliminated most of their problems. Some still get cytopoint injections or immunotherapy for the environmental allergies; in my case I still have to give cetirizine and weekly ear flushes with EcoEars to prevent ear infections, but I haven't had to take dog to vet yet.
