So, Pep's been acting a little weird. She keeps itching on my desk. At first, I thought it was her hot spot, but upon closer inspection, I noticed she's got some redness around her vulva. Not sure what to do, but she wasn't eating either. (Just started right now)

Could she be going into heat? We think she's about 6 months old. Oh, and I put a little Cortisone on the redness (same as the hot spot) and she decided to eat.

(She's also due to be spayed tomorrow!) Doesn't seem like the cream is helping too much, she just started it again. I'm kinda worried!

Ideas? Thanks in advance!
:anyone:

I'm going to suggest NOT SPAYING HER (at this time) if that's a possibility.

Some Vets will tell you, no problem, but there are dangers as their arteries
and that entire system is full and engorged with blood.

Better to go thru her heat cycle then wait 2 months before spaying her.

i agree with Carol, as there is a chance of more bleeding, if they are in heat. also-do you clean around her vulva? Most (or all) Bullies can not reach to lick them selves, as other dogs do, and she may have "debis" in the folds, making her sore and itchy. Perhaps you have already checked that........?

I did check her vulva and I usually clean it with the rest of her once a day. It doesn't appear to be her vulva, looking at it since she's stopped the itching. She doesn't have any other signs of heat, but there is some irritation on her upper thigh, almost as though she's getting another hot spot. She goes to the groomer in about 20 minutes, so I'll check her then.

Also, if I wait to spay her, I could face a $500 fine for not having a "breeder" permit. Fort Worth just instituted the law. Hopefully she hasn't gone into heat yet!

Ummm, perhaps your Vet could write a letter explaining the situation
and assuring it will be done asap once the danger zone has passed.

As you can see from my signature line, I am against any form of gov.
intrusion on our populace & our rights. When the revolution starts, I'll
be in the front lines lopping off their heads and putting them on a pike.

HAHAHA...don't tread on me, FOOL

OMG! A $500 fine for not spaying! I know there are a lot of poor homeless dogs, but geez.............Doesn't ANYONE remember Hitler ? How about A "free country?":usa:?

Well, seeing as this county euthanized about 400k animals last year...I'm not opposed to the fine. Its gotten really out of control. She's going to see her vet and we'll determine then whether or not to spay her tomorrow. I'm hoping the itching isn't a big deal!

Hope she is and it is just a rash.... Keep us posted

Well I hope she is not fixing to go into heat, as it is not good to spay them when they are in heat. I agree that people need to spay and neuter their animals, but I am also all about the welfare of the animal, and if you had to wait until she is out of heat to spay, how would the city even know she was in heat if she is in your house?

update! It was just what looks like a little rash on her thigh. Might be a grass allergy. Awesome!

Well, since she comes to work, a lot of people see her. The breeder's licence isn't a big deal (Just take a class and $50 permit fee) but the fines are steep. Its been a huge problem in this area.

Anyway, she's all good to go now. i miss my doggie!

That is great! Glad your girl is okay!

Just checking to see if the spay went okay and your baby is doing well!

We will be thinking about her today, and hoping for the best. Let us know how her surgery went. Now the fun part when you get her home is keeping her quiet and no jumping for about 10 days.
