I took Otis to the vet Monday for his followup appointment. I can't feel that lymph node in his neck anymore but the doctor could. She put him on 21 more days of Prednisone and antibiotics. It is doesn't go back to normal they will remove it when they neuter him. Other than that, he is in perfect health. All 56 pounds of him. The only downside is that we can't neuter him until he is off the steriods which means he will still mark everything and try to hump on Abby's head. My sweetie head has been defiled!
Abby saw her kidney specialists last night but her news isn't as good. She's been throwing up again every day, sometimes twice a day, her numbers are out of control. Her BUN was 230 (it shouldn't be any higher than 27), her PCV dropped from 30 last month to 24. Phosphorous has climbed from 10.7 last month to 12.6. Creatinine has gone from 3.6 last month to 5.1. The doctor said this is from more nephrons in his kidneys dieing, it's just the natural progression of her disease. Her attitude is the same as it always has been so that's a good sign but her kidneys are deteriorating. What's confusing all of her doctors is that she is still gaining weight. She's now 30.1 pounds. They tell me she should be losing weight, not gaining it. So they're all kind of stumped by that.
All of her other numbers are still great. We've successfully fought off the onset of pancreatitis (YAY!) and her protein levels are still well within normal range. We're not done fighting for her yet. The doctors tell me that there are a lot of other medical treatments we can try (drugs to control the BUN and anemia) so we're not completely out of options. We've switched out her daily dose of Pepcid for a daily dose of Cerenia and I'm making some more changes to her diet.
Yesterday MABR asked me to call a woman who's baby was also diagnosed with CRF. They asked me to give her some tips because the dog has stopped eating. The woman was telling me that she's been using something called Astro's CRF Oil. She swears by the stuff. I'm going to look into that too.
