Hi everyone! Hope you all had a great holiday and new year! We’ve been so busy here and miss talking to our bulldog friends!

Just yesterday I’ve noticed fran having an issue opening her right eye. (By nature she has a more droopy eye that exposes her third eyelid and the right eye is usually clear her left eye is brown which the vet has told me is normal) when she does open It her third eyelid is inflamed and red and at times It will appear to be raising up and slightly covering her pupil. Once in a while it goes down and she can open both eyes but more often that not the third eyelid is raised into her vision and she is extremely teary and struggles to open her eye. I’ve read that this can be a natural protectant if something is in her eye and I’ve rinsed her several times with saline solution and she hasn’t gotten any relief. She is constantly pawing at It and has been walking into doors and things because she can’t see. We have a vet appointment for Friday night and I’m thinking this may be the onset of ectropion (not Entropion) and i would like to know of anyone’s experience with this. I know it can be taken care of and I’m doing everything to keep her comfortable but would be at ease knowing we’re not alone and she will be okay! Thank you! Here are the few pictures i could get of her it’s been rough getting her to open her eye. You can see in the first couple of pictures how she’s droopy. But now it’s just really bad.

From what I see in the 2nd pic it does not appear to me that she'll ever be an entropion candidate, but I've been wrong before. I'm guessing that she's somehow scratched her cornea or some debris has gotten in her eye. Your Vet will be able to figure this out and the best thing to do is keep it lubricated as best you can...like you're doing. Please report back what the Vet says.

Hoping I’m just being an over reactive bully mom! Will definitely let you know what the vet says!

Hey stranger! Happy New Year!

I agree with Chip... from your description.. I think she may have a scratch. You may want to try and get in earlier with the vet ... if it is a scratched cornea, the more she blinks and rubs, the worse it will get.

Ty! Yeah It was scary.. she would open her eye sometime and all I’d see was the pink eyelid like completely covering her eyeball. Spooky she looked like a ghoul [emoji24]

Hey everyone so it’s entropian. Her eyelids are rolling in and bothering her. Luckily our vet has a great opthamologist ! So we’re going to follow up with him when he gets back from vacation! For now she’s getting some antibiotic drops for her eyes

Entropion cases we've dealt with over the years rarely ever flare up and get better like seen here. I'm still of the opinion that any entropion your baby "might" have did not cause the eye to nearly close. It simply does not come and go like that. Entropion is a slow process that usually begins with tear stains, then eye goop, and lastly swelling...that might or might not result in what I see in the really good pics provided. Please do not be too quick to pull the trigger on surgery. Give time to completely heal, if it will. Consider a 2nd opinion.
Watch for blinking when not obviously swollen and irritated. Were any meds prescribed? Please keep us updated.

We got this to put in the eye for 5 days.

Frans eyes are always wet and she does have some slight staining starting but only on the eye that she’s having probs with. As far as goopy, she get lots of eye boogies not sure if that’s the same thing. I definitely want to talk to a specialist more thoroughly before we make any major decisions. I also don’t want to delay the necessary and have her develop more problems down the line ya know? Thankfully i have everyone here who’s experience i truly value! I will absolutely keep everyone updated.

You're on the right track. It's possible that mild entropion caused a little irritation and she scratched at her eye and it ballooned from there.
Goopy = eye boogers
chronic tear stains is a telltale sign.
It's good that you are aware and being the best bullyMom you can be!
