Soft Palate Surgery

Nice work! The surgery should helps a lot with most dogs. You’ll likely see his activity rise to a level not seen in years. GL!

I really wouldn't have it done. Unless it's life threatening. My Sid had it done at a year old and now he's 5 and I'm at the vets at least twice a year for extreme breathing difficulties. The surgery as far as I'm concerned doesn't work. What needs to happen is they breeders put two dogs together that have good breathing. It's not rocket science and we need to keep breeds as near to original as possible. Tricolour etc needs to be stopped. ( Blue, Black and tan) Introducing these colours has severely weakened an already weak breathing dog. I blame the Kennel club here and America for allowing such changes in all thorough breeds. It's cruelty and I hate seeing my pal in such discomfort. Purchase traditional colours and stop this practice for the good of the breed.
What’s causing did breathing difficulties ?

Is it hot where you live? Odd he is panting for just laying to suckle his stuffy

What does Winston weigh? Was he okay before he got his stuffy back?
He weighs about 62 pounds that’s after losing about 4 pounds through this whole ordeal. He looks really good and yeah, he was fine before the stuffy. Winston’s always pants a lot when he gets excited and I think he’s just been super excited to have his privileges back as it were. And when I say he sucks on his stuffy he really sucks on his stuffy. It’s not a passive thing. My boy loves his stuffy. We did take it away. We’ll see how he does. My wife is just worried that it was causing swelling.

Yeah! 62lb is getting on for 29kg, just my opinion but that seems to heavy. That extra will deffo put strain on Winston's organs, and could cause panting. I know the dogs size is a factor in weight, although I go towards the lean side, for health reasons. Jeffo is medium to large, and I keep him at 21-22kg about 48lb. Diet time, Winston will be heathier

It would depend on his build.. I had two that we 62 pounds and looked fantastic because we based on waistlines and height. Here is a picture of our Banks girl, she was a 62 pound beauty. .

Yeah! Banks looks great, and weight does go on size of the dog, as I stated in the post. But if Winston is between 14-16" to the shoulder that's average for a BBDs, 62lb I think is to heavy. Although I am working on the assumption that Winston is average, and if he is at 62lb that will not help his breathing or his joints. I've seen some pics of BBDs from America, and they are massive, maybe 70lb and still look good. They almost look like a different breed to the BBDs. Although I am still in favour of keeping a dog on the lean side, but that's just me.

He’s always been around 60 ish lbs he looks really good now was chunky up at 67 (yikes) the Doc who did the surgery said she wanted him 5 lbs down he’s been pretty inactive the hope is once well he can get back to more activity. We’ve cut back his food and no more bites from our plates ( bad dad) thanks for your input

Yeah! A lower weight will deffo help Winston, and if you get him to around 55-56lb and the Vet does see him, I guarantee she will be well pleased with Winston and you(y) The plates deffo put the pounds on:)
