Overheating concern question

We want to take Winston on a 4 day bicycling trip thru New York (we will be staying in hotels in the evenings but we'll be outside the rest of the time). The weather is usually in the low to mid 80s but we'll be biking all day long. Winston will be riding in a dog bike trailer with lots of airflow and we will be stopping every 30 minutes for water. Should we be concerned about overheating with him?

I wouldn't do it this time of year. NY gets hot, even upstate. Low to mid 80's, can easily feel like high 80's low 90's in the sun. Plus it's humid, even upstate. If he does over heat, it would be difficult to get to vet ASAP since you guys are on bikes. Just not something I would chance.

Yes I would be extremely concerned. Have you any friends or family that could take care of him while you're away?

Yes. Very concerning. We have had low or mid 80's weather lately. It is very hard on the bullies. Stella is panting after 5 mins of being outside. If that red bag in your picture is the carrier for the bike, it looks small and stifling. I would not recommend that sort of trip for a bulldog at all. Sorry to be blunt, but you want to enjoy having your bully for a long healthy life!

I agree w/the gang… one time Bella overheated on a VERY mild day, we took her to the park for like 30 min & PetSmart. She didn't end up at the vets, but it scared us half to death. Personally I would leave your baby at home...

I live in NY and my two are only out for very very brief potty breaks and a little wander around the yard. It is warm and humid right now and it is only going to get worse. Frankie was outside on Monday for about 20 mins and was panting pretty hard. I had to give him ice cubes and had him relax in the AC. I think the bike trip will be trouble.

I agree with everyone else. It would be difficult for you to see the signs of heat stroke if he is being towed behind. It's so much better not to risk it. Leave your baby with a sitter and enjoy your trip

Hi. I have to agree with everyone's advice, I wouldn't chance it, the weather is way too hot and muggy for an EB, and 4 days in the carrier would be asking for disaster, and taking a big risk with his health and breathing. I would be too scared.
We took our guys out for a short walk late in the evening the other night, and it wasn't anywhere near 80 degrees, but they still were panting when we got back. It was too humid, and we only walked for about 15 minutes. Usually we take them out only in the early mornings, and late evenings, and just for short potty breaks during the day. We have even turned on our air conditioning so the dogs will be comfortable. I would get a pet sitter, or find a good kennel, to be safe, and enjoy your trip. I definitely wouldn't risk him getting overheated and sick.

I think it is too hot for your Winston to be out in the heat. Elmo is out for about 10min. here in NC and I have to make him come inside to the Air Conditioner. You don't want your Bully to over heat. Not a Good Thing.

Sounds like a wonderful trip, but not one for your baby.... leave him home. even mild tempatures can easily become a danger in a very short window of time for these babies. I would not risk it.

Yeah I don't think it would be worth the risk as it could turn a fun time around very fast.

As a NYer I would say not a good idea. The last couple days has been a bit hot and humid and it's hard on your pup. Raven loves being outdoors in our yard and I have to drag her inside because within 5 minutes tops she is panting away. I would have to vote against the bike tour.
