Hi friends!

My beautiful boy Hummer, just turned 10 years on recently on Dec. 29th. The day after his birthday, we noticed some blood on his bed and inspected him all over - we found a purplish mass inside his right cheek. On New Year's day, we took him to the vet, (thank goodness they were open), and they were able to remove his small mass the next day.

Yesterday, we finally got his biopsy results... and we're devastated. Results say that Hummer has a very invasive malignant oral melanoma. They say most dogs with this type of cancer have about 5 months left... I've been crying all day yesterday from distraught and confusion because Hummer has been doing SO well that how could such a good boy have cancer?? We have our first appointment with an oncologist on Tuesday and hopefully he can give us more information...

My husband and I talked about it last night, that if the oncologist presents us a plan that will be very tough for our boy, that we would opt out and just make sure our boy is happy and comfortable. But, we will cross that bridge once we get there...

I guess from this awesome community, I wanted to ask and see if anyone else has dealt with something similar? How were the treatments? Any experience with chemo? How much longer was your bully able to stay with you?

Thank you all so much for taking the time to read about Hummer.

@Wuhgees I am so sorry to hear about Hummer's diagnoses. The only experience I have had with this is my neice's Dalmation. He had the same thing, and due to traumatic choices of treatments, she opted to keep him comfortable as long as possible. That was several years ago, and perhaps treatments have become less traumatic. As your Dr. predicted, her boy lived about 7 more months, then the decision was made. I wish I had a more encouraging response for you,and perhaps someone else does. I will pray for you and your precious boy, that you will have quality time for as long as possible. Hummer is a handsome fella'. Ask about DNA serum/treatment.

I am sorry I cannot offer any advice but we send out best wishes to Hummer. What a beautiful lion bulldog. Big hug from Castor.

I am so very sorry to be reading this it's so heartbreaking I do not have any experience with this but just want to send prayers and love to you all.

I'm SO very sorry to read this... your boy is beautiful, and any bulldog that lives to be 10 is very lucky. You guys have obviously been taking very good care of him, and of course something like this happening is a complete shock. I personally do not have experience w/this... but I will tag some members to see if we can get you more info. I wish you all the best, and of course we are here for you and the family.

So sorry to hear. No experience either for the diagnosis. See what plan if they do have one but your decisions to keep him as comfortable as possible is the best one.

my thoughts and prayers are with you
few things on this earth are more painful than saying goodbye to a dog.
tell him when he gets over the Rainbow Bridge to look for Chunky, she's our Bully we lost 3 years ago, and tell her I still cry for her.

so sorry to hear about your baby... I have no experience but have read good things about cannabis oil... if you can research that and ask you et if they offer it.

Sending tons of positive thoughts and prayers

such an awful thing to hear and have to carry in your sad heart. Comfort is is the best choice in my heart i feel as well. Bless you and I wish you all well.

So sorry to hear this. Hummer is a handsome boy and Monty sends hugs. Praying that the oncologist can give you a more optimistic prognosis.
