I just read in a Swedish newspaper about a dog in Alabama who had been found and identified after having been missing for ten years thanks to a microchip. Here's a US source: Missing dog found after 10 years | WISH-TV
It shows the importance of microchipping and of regestering the microchip! Unfortunately the dog is not healthy but he is safe and well taken care of now.
