Need help

Hello just got back from the vets , he said no way to give bruno meat of any kind , he said the amount of dogs he see with people putting there dogs on a fad idea (raw diet)who end up with sickness, diarrhoea and food poisoning, bacteria poison, He sed Bruno has an allergy to meat, regardless he is a dog whom people believe should eat meat coz he a dog and to keep him on his hyperallergenic biscuits. He now weighs 24.8kg and the vet would like him to 24kg, so I'm not sure I should go against the vets ,he sed brunos allergies are not seasonal they are food related and any change causes him flare ups that are so bad and he goes red raw.
How can they be food related if he has been on steroids and hypoallergenic food for so long? If you aren't giving him the foods they say he is "allergic" to, then that can't be it, can it???

In my opinion and this is me…….you are šŸ’Æ correct! Vets can’t say it’s food related after 2yrs of steroid. The immune system is completely shot. Only way to bring back to speeding recovery is completely stop the steroids, make sure the NuStock and soaking paws in epsom salts is on going for at least 30days as mentioned BEFORE doing a blood work to see what the real issue is. Then work on that problem immediately. I can be food, environmental but till the dog isn’t off steroids, you will never know. I personally, again not telling anyone to go my route, I would put my dogs off steroids to get down to the bottom of this.

Totally agree with @helsonwheels . I’d definitely push your vet to do bloodwork and any other related tests. My first Bulldog, had a bad skin outbreak on an area of his skin (been so long can’t remember the exact location) that was stumping our vet, who too had us put him on hypoallergenic food, basic antibiotics, and steroids. We had to continue with several tests until we finally discovered he had a bad staff infection. Fortunately when he was put on the correct antibiotics, for this particular hard core bacteria, it finally got better.

Hello I'm new here and iam desperate for help in helping my beautiful boy Bruno who suffers terrible with his feet. The vets have put him on steroids for over 2 years and he is on a hyperallergenic diet the same amount of time but he still suffers terrible flare ups. The vet says no meat and definitely not any human food which I do but it still hasn't changed what is going on. He has been on so many different tablets and still can't seem to solve the problem ,but with his obvious pain he still is a happy boy and constantly wants to play but his feet are so bad any advice would be a help.

Poor sweet Bruno. I feel for you and him. My lil Ella has had paw flair ups since she was a puppy. Our vet also diagnosed it as allergies and prescribed her Cytopoint. It helps so much. She gets an injection every 6 to 8 weeks, as soon as we notice her starting to lick her paws again. I highly recommend asking your vet about this.
I’d also agree about asking your vet about tapering Bruno off of the steroids, if it’s feasible. My other dog, who I mentioned in my previous reply, did eventually die of liver cancer, several years after his long term use of steroids for his skin infection. I’m not sure if that’s why he developed cancer, but our vet did warn us of the risk. That’s why we continued working him up to figure out why his infection wasn’t going away.
I’d also recommend asking if you can test to make sure there isn’t a bacterial infection there now that could need a more powerful antibiotic, like my other dog did.
I hope this helps and that you can get your sweet boy healed very soon.
