Surgery is set for April 29th! I found a vet I’m comfortable with. We are only doing the salivary surgery, he thinks doing the palate especially is just too much trauma at once in the mouth. He thinks that Brutus breathes pretty dang well for a bulldog so we’ll just wait and see. It’s also pretty costly for the salivary surgery so I’m okay with just doing that for now. I really liked the idea of just putting him under once but it’s more risky...the salivary surgery is pretty involved. I asked a ton of questions which actually got answered...I’m feeling pretty good and confident. This boy has my whole heart and it’s so scary to put him under. I’m feeling much better with a confident vet.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions:)

Is this at River Road?

Just wanted to update everyone. Brutus had surgery Monday and is healing well! He seemed a little off yesterday but is back to his normal self today.

We went with the less invasive procedure. They basically drain it and suture it open so it can freely drain. Sometimes it does come back and then we’d have to get the saliva glands taken out. Which only a specialist can do and it’s expensive. Fingers crossed this works. Just excited it’s finally over (at least for now). It was getting ridiculously big and irritating him. He couldn’t chew on anything. On Monday morning he actually couldn’t even close his mouth it was so big. Not very fun for a teething puppy.

Here’s a picture of him sleeping after surgery :)

Hope it doesn’t return and he heals up quickly

So glad you found someone that you can trust-and was willing to answer your concerns. That is what we all need in a Dr. If they can't be "bothered" then we can't be bothered! Happy that your boy is doing well! Marlana He is so cute!

Thank you! I’m so glad we found someone. He’s feeling so much better. It kept getting infected and was so huge the morning of surgery that he couldn’t close his mouth all the way. It’s been almost a week and he’s already trying to chew on everything which he hasn’t done in a month. He also just seems to feel better and be more energetic in general, which I’m sure is because of infection. They say it’s not painful but inflammation plus the pressure...couldn’t have been comfortable either.
