Lily was spayed on Monday & she came home yesterday afternoon.
She was a trooper and came out of it just fine.
I was so worried about her!
So the vet tells me to keep the cone on for a week then bring her back for a check up.
I said that I didn't even think she could reach down there.
The vet said puppies can but the adults can't.
Now I have had her for 2 and half months and I have never seen her reach down there at all.
As soon as we got home Lily was not having it with the cone.
She would cry and not move.
I took it off her and we have been keeping a close eye on her ever since.
I don't want Lily to hurt herself.
I will def keep it on when I'm not home.
But what about over night?

Do I really need to keep that on her?

What do you guys think??
Any advice?

Thanks, Lisa

If it were me...I would take the cone off while I was home and just watch her...but if I were leaving her alone..I'd be hesitant until you can leave it off all day without her trying! Poor baby...don't blame her a bit!

I would put it on her a few times a day to help her get used to one, you never know if she may need to wear it in the future. You can also get a soft sided one at pet stores. Hope she feels better soon! How is she acting so far?

Good idea I will look for a soft one at the pet stores.
She is doing ok, thanks!
She is eating, kinda mushy but I think the pain meds do that to her.

agreed. although, we never needed it as both Nitschke and Banks never tried to reach the area that had been 'off limits' when the cone was not on.

We just spayed our 6 mth old Olive, she never once reached for her wound.

HRH was so upset by the cone of shame after her hernia repair that it didn't last 10 minutes and daddy took it off. She was 3 years old then, and never did try to reach the incision. But if she ever had to have her eyes done we will have to get a soft one.

I did try one of the inflatable ones. That didn't work either.
