Keep it clean and dry and avoid tail removal surgery. Sometimes there's no avoiding it, unfortunately. Keeping weight DOWN can help.

Willow has a very tight corkscrew tail, I have to wipe it daily w/baby wipes and I'm trying to figure out a way to get Gold Bond powder back there. I was thinking of getting a ketchup squirt bottle to put it in, but I don't know... I really want to avoid surgery as well.

I have heard a babies ear syringe works. I have never tried it however!

I used the ketchup squirt bottles and that did work for Dozer. Unfortunately, it still was always infected and icky. He recently had his tail amputated and doing much better.

Brutus has a horrible tail. I either use gold bond or zeasorb powder. I find the zeasorb works the best on him. It keeps it so dry and not itchy. The way I get his powder in good is I put his hind quarters on the bed and his two front paws on the floor so his butt is in the air. It really helps get the powder down in his tail pocket. I rub it in and he's good to go!

Good luck!

HaHa!! I would LOVE to see a picture of that! Hey, whatever works though!

Use witch hazel on the baby wipe... it is self drying so you need not worry about moisture continuing to build up.. As others said... get a ketchup or mustard bottle and put the gold bond in that to squirt under the tail

That is great! What a good boy to do that, I can't see Monty going for it!

Oh trust me, Brutus does not go for this, they are many bites and growling happening lol. It's 10 mins of arguing before I finally corral him up there.
