Help Needed! Any holistic or natural remedies for alleviating eye ulcers?

Hi Everybody,

I hope you are all doing well along with your bullies :D


I'm in a bit of a dilemma that I would like some feedback on.

About a month ago we saw an eye specialist for Dozer to deal with his chronic eye ulcers. Aside from the entropian (which we knew about) it was discovered that hair around the eyelid was actually growing towards his eyeball, giving him ulcers.

The doctor said that he had the possibility of going blind in that eye (the other eye is fine) if we didn't address this. Fair enough, we set a date for surgery and the doctor corrects his entropian as well as froze and removed the hairs in his eye - everything seemed good for a few weeks.


Then he started squinting again and trying to rub his eye, it turns out his eye ulcer is back and so is the hair.

I have to say I am not confident in this eye doctors ability at treating my bully and would really like to avoid doing $2500 surgerys every few months to freeze and remove those hairs.

I know this is a long shot and the odds of having a natural treatment to this are slim - but I have to ask; does anyone know of any natural remedies regarding this?

There are remedies that will soothe the eyes and help to keep them healthy but unless the eye lash issue is corrected the problem is going to come back. Have you taken him to an ophthalmologist? I know a great one in Little Falls you can go to.

I guess I'm looking for a way around this - the eye doctor who performed the surgery basically told me that he's going to keep needing surgeries to remove the hair. However, the hair will keep growing back and I really don't want to have him go through surgery after surgery indefinetly to only alleviate this for a few weeks; he's only 1.7 years old!

I'm willing to go for second or even third opinion - so I'd appreciate your opthamologists info

My bulldog has similar issues. When my vet was considering surgery it was to remove a little skin under the eye so the hair and eye lid weren't rolling into her eye. Luckily with some eye drops she the swelling from irritation has gone down enough and she won't require surgery.

Mine also has entropian. I was under the understanding that that is the problem with entropian, because one of the lids is turned in, hair irritates the cornea (causing ulcers etc...). My understanding was the entropian surgery pinned the eyelids back as to not have the hair grow towards the eye ? We are managing ours with a Naturpathic vet who believes we can get buy without surgeries.

The eye doctor did fix his mild entropian dring surgery, however the hair is growing under his regular eyelid anyway (doctor said it is a known genetic defect).
