Around what temp. should we put a sweater or coat when outside?

Living in Canada, very rare I put on jackets on my dogs. Dogs will develop winter coats on their own as you know. The more they’re outside without a jacket the better they’ll protect themselves. I make a point to leave them outside as much as I can so their bodies gets use to all seasons. In Alberta we will have some -40cel. Jacket or not, I don’t bring the dogs out in extreme weather. I too don’t even go out lol... I’ll put their jackets at -15 n up n that’s for short walks. Here in winter, we don’t walk much with EB you know it’s not ideal or do I see any smaller dogs. They will spend most of their winters in the backyard. That being said I do go outside with them n make sure they move n get the blood going. You’re in NC and you do get harsh winters too especially winds if you’re along the ocean side. Jake my white face was born n raised outside. In winter my breeder has them outside in big runs, her dogs all have some sort of shelters or dog house with straw. Not one of her dogs ever had issues. Extreme weather like -40 she’ll bring them all in the house.

All this to say, IMO, Do buy a jacket but let your dog get use to the winters like I’ve explained above. I guarantee you, your dog won’t be wearing a jacket much. Your dog will enjoy more the snow n will play in it.

Given your location I'd think you would never need a coat or sweater. It's rare that temps drop below 20F. A sweater on a Bulldog would be more of a fashion statement...and that's fine. You got a cool sweater, show it off.

Cheers...didn’t know what kind of temperature NC gets. I only know they can get horrible winds/tornadoes ....

My dogs all have waterproof coats.These bullies are the only dogs I've ever had,who WILL Not leave them on! They pull each others coats off-it's a game to them! It really hardly ever gets cold enough here anyway.

Lambeau never has a jacket... but Cheli we place one on him when temperatures are in the 20’s or less... he has fused vertebrae so we do all we can to lessen impact
