It has been far too long since I visited these boards to update all you wonderful people on Ki's progress. Life has been so busy, almost all of my times goes to work and Ki.
I have wonderful news. After over a year of working with Kiah, she is in almost perfect health. She is down to 49lbs. She knows over 30 words. We walk up to 2 miles a day. We can share space, sit outside around other people and dogs. She isn't nearly as afraid of everything, she has confidence and will investigate. I can walk her in downtown areas, through crowds of people on a Friday night and she listens perfectly. She is finally acting like a dog again. She fully trusts me now and I can snap her out of it in seconds If she has an outburst or gets triggered. Once I got her back to her "essence" I was able to decode some of her old behaviors. One thing I noticed was her prey drive, which I am sure her previous owners mistook for aggression and that's where the abuse came in. A few months ago I came home from work and she was screaming/peeing everywhere. I rushed her to the vet. After many xrays, they found arthritis and swollen joints in her hind legs, loose patellas and some abnormalities, plus a UTI. All due to previous trauma (cept for the UTI). That explained so much, poor girl...
She still works for everything and does such a good job. You can tell she wants to learn and get rewarded.
I also introduced Kiah to my moms dog, who is very submissive and non-reactive. We worked in some small sessions, we had 0 issues and even went for a walk without a single outburst.
As of today, the only issue we have are allergies, I have to clean her paws/wrinkles twice a day. She loves it now. I'm so very proud of her and all the progress she made. Best of all, her favorite thing to do now is cuddle.
For those people who don't know Kiah's history. She came from a severely abused/neglected background, there is an intro post telling her story.
SO this weekend I have to fly out to Cali for a funeral, first time i'm going to leave her. I have some good people who I will have spend time with her come over throughout the day/night. I'm still a bit concerned, at least I have the cameras up.
Sorry about some of them coming in sideways, they look fine when I upload them, but rotate when I insert.
Of course I have some great pics to share,
