Oh what good news! Cant wait till you get him home and are able to start healing. How long is that process estimated to take? Do you have to keep him locked up so he doesnt move or are they wanting him to move or what? Just being nosey, dont mind me.

**clapping hands** Fantastic news that it all went well, and that he didn't need the more major surgery!! Let's hope that he recovers fast - puppies bounce back quick! Your next major task will probably be to try and keep him as quiet and still as he is supposed to be after that kind of surgery!!!

Truman is doing well this morning and ready for pick up after noon...here's a little pic my friend who works there sent me...looks like Truman is striped down to the skin!

Great news!!! He is so cute, give him a kiss from Bella.
Abby was recommended to have that surgery about 4 years ago. We did not do it , the vet at that time said she would need to "borrow" instruments since she doesn't do it that often. We went to a specialist asap!!! And they said we could wait and try supplements to help her joints....it worked fine, we just limit her running (if we can)

Yes, it's a pretty new surgery but the doctor had performed it before and had good results with a Rottweiler who had the same symptoms as Truman. Since it is so non-invasive, I figured it's better to do it now, hopefully avoid future surgery, and retain his natural hips - IF that bad hip stays in socket long enough for the JPS to work.
To respond to cali~jenn, I have to be honest, I have no idea what to expect? They will go over all the post-op care for him when I pick him up but since he basically was fixed and had his growth plate cauterized, I am guessing he's going to be walking and getting around but I know I have to be sure I do everything possible to make sure that hip stays in socket. I guess I will know more in an hour!

Truman is home now and is doing very well.
The vet tech said he did very good eating, drinking, and walking while he was there overnight and didn't spend much time in his cage since the overnight staffers took turns petting him on their laps. So, yes, it sounds like he was abused.
Truman had his right hip placed back in socket and sutured there to give him the best opportunity to retain both natural hip joints and for the JPS surgery to work. He is sore and he is missing half the hair on half of his backside, but in good but sleepy spirits. He walks gingerly on the right hip, which is very normal. The amount of weight he puts on it should progress slowly over the next couple weeks to normal, in order to help build up those muscles in that area.
He is on Tramadol for the post op pain then Metacam for later to take care of any discomfort.
He is allowed to walk but not allowed to jump, run, slide or do anything too crazy for at least a couple weeks. The longer than hip stays in place, the longer the JPS has time to work, the better the chances are he will not need further surgery.
For now, he has found a good pillow to curl up on, on the couch:
