I JUST got Roxie's meds today, and funny thing… I had actually joined a FB page regarding canine's w/cushings disease. Someone had written a post regarding their dogs prescription for Vetoryl, and they were questioning the dosage amount. Well Roxie was prescribed 2 60mg tablets every morning (120mg per day) the SAME dosage this person was questioning. The members were telling him that they NEW guidelines from the drug manufacturer Dechra was changed to 1mg per pound… that would mean Roxie should be taking 70mg per day NOT 120mg. I joined their forum and got more info… and I saw the update w/the clinical trials to prove it!!! Apparently Dechra has been waiting for 2 YEARS for the FDA to change the US guidelines, and it's still listed wrong on the packaging

I'm dumbfounded… these drugs can have VERY serious side effects, and they still don't have the correct dosages listed!!! I'm NOT giving Roxie the meds in the morning, and I'm calling my vet first thing… I swear you need to CHECK everything these days, it's so frustrating!!!

Wow that's just insane!!! I'm so glad you got with that group, let us know what the vet says.

That's just madness. Hope you get the dosage right soon.

Carol last night I'm surprised I actually went to sleep, and YOU are exactly right!!! I feel like I have to double-check EVERYTHING that I do concerning my family… you really can NOT trust anyone to look out for the welfare of your loved ones :(

I'm calling her today, and I've got the literature to back me up… I have to be honest, this REALLY scared me!!! This medicine is NO joke, very serious side effects…

I am at a loss for words... so unacceptable that it takes 2 yrs to change a label

That is just so sad, I hope you get the correct dosage for Roxie.

My parents went through that with Sydney and his xanax. They gave him the prescribed dosage and a few hours later, he couldn't move his back legs. They rushed him to the vet and come to find out he was overdosing. it's so sad more thought isn't put into medication.

Interesting… I talked to the vet today, and she told me that she get's her dosage amounts from her internist NOT the manufacturer. She told me that if I decide to lower the dosage that I won't see a change in Roxie, but I don't think she understands that I don't CARE about seeing results immediately. I'm concerned about her getting used to that drug period, and I don't care HOW long it takes to tweak the dosages… She told me that it would be fine to give her 60mg for 10 days, and then bring her in for her blood test. YES I know that she may need 120mg at some point, but not initially. I'm just thankful that my vet is okay w/me being conservative on this…

Good thing you found the other site and did some checking. Never can be too safe now days.

I agree David, but I'm afraid I'm turning into a hypochondriac (NOT by choice… Lol). TOO much vet drama...

You should also see if the tablets are scored. You could also do 1 and 1/4 tablet and that would get you to 75 mg.

They are capsules that can not be split or broken apart… you can't even open them to place the meds on food :(

Wow! I think you're doing the right thing keeping the dosage low. That's a pretty big difference in dosages!
