Hello all,

This started about a week ago, Joey's left eye. She's never had cherry eye and the vet says not cherry eye but a scratch on her eye. She has a follow up appointment with the vet on Friday and has been on triple antibiotic eye ointment since last Friday.

Thoughts? Look familiar to anyone? THANK YOU SO MUCH in advance!

Hi Christine and thank you! Joey goes back to the vet Friday. She went last Friday, has the "stain" put in her eye and that is how they diagnosed the scratch but said that she wanted to see Joey back in a week so we are going Friday. In my attempt to do research, as we always do for our kids, I saw that eye injury could cause the "third eyelid" to come out in response to the injury, am I understanding that correctly?

Nothing mentioned about specialist yet.

Thanks again!

Sounds right, body always tries to protect and heal itself. Cheli cut his cornea about a year ago, it was bad, and ointment was only option, three eyelid never came out thought, but doesn’t mean it wouldn’t

Whew!!! Thanks for making me feel better friend!! I will steady the course, take Joey for her follow up, show doc the photo, and see what we do from there. As everyone, I like the give it time choice UNLESS that would do her harm or discomfort, so we'll see.

Joey says THANK YOU !!!

Poor little Joey - I hope it doesn't hurt? She has such an adorable face, with that cute little shiny lower lip Castor too has. We hope Joey's eyes will heal soon.

Hi!! I don't think it hurts now, it DID bother her last week, I caught her rubbing her paw on it but she has stopped that, so hopefully just taking time to heal. RIGHT? the shiny lower lip!!!! I've noticed Castor's in photos! TOO CUTE!! It almost seems like she sticks it out when she REALLY wants something from me LOL but I know that it's my imagination, but......you know what I mean HAHAHAHA. Thanks for the kind words friend :)

Poor Joey... yes not a cherry eye. Maybe put a cone on for time being?

Hi, my Nikolas had this happen to his eye. His eye itself was fine after testing but the vet believed he had been stung by something in his eye because the eye area was also swollen. He was clearly in pain and with ointment and painkillers he was back to normal in about a week and a half.

Thanks Helene! Great thought, I will speak with the vet tomorrow after she see Joey for her follow up. She's no longer rubbing it but was when it began. It seems worse right after she wakes up......

Hi there and thank you for your post! Glad to hear the Nikolas recovered fine! Did his "third eyelid" show up? In response to the injury?

This looks extremely normal, and my two are constantly scratching their eyes!!! Once the ulcer heals, her eye will be back to normal... keep us posted.

Should heal completely within 2 weeks. If she starts pawing at it, a cone might be advised.

Castor says it's a good thing they only have a lower lip as lipstick otherwise would have been very expensive:rolleyes:
