Help Needed! Peeing on things!

Zeus, our 7 year old bulldog pees on our bed, our couch, and sometimes on laundry that is left out when we are away!

Last night he peed on our bed (we forgot to put the gate up) and when I reprimanded him for it, he BIT me! Not a warning nip, actually made contact and left a mark on my arm! I understand that many times this is a sign of separation anxiety, however he has his buddy at the house for him when we are away and he doesn't tear things up so I can't believe that it's a separation thing. Please help!

Sounds more like a dominance thing to me. I am not an animal trainer but I would start with showing him that you are the one in charge. Look up NILF (Nothing in life is free) on google to get some tips and suggestions. First, I would start crating when you aren't home. Then, when he wants to be on the bed or the sofa, have him WAIT until you invite him! For now, I would make those places strictly off limits for a while. Also, start back with the basics like having him perform a command for food, come in the house last after outside time, etc. I am sure that some of our more experienced people will be along soon to help and offer great advice.

You may want to consider that he is having a health issue as well so a quick wellness check with the vet seems to be in order, especially if this is a fairly new thing.

It will be work for both of you but the rewards are SWEET!

Great advice as this is what I did with Brutus....Brutus was very bad with peeing on my bed and clothes(threw out so much) It was him being domiant b/c we had his siter and another pitbull who was staying with us for a little. I know its tough but if you go back to basics and let him know you are in control it should get better..Good Luck

If not you might want to get him checked out at the vet to make sure nothing is going on with him medically.

Thank you everyone. This is definitely great advice, and I feel that it is a dominance thing too. He's a bulldog...and he is stubborn! The tell-tale sign here is that he has "his" couch that he sleeps on during the day and never ever messes on. This is definitely not NEW behavior; he is an adopted bulldog from a family friend and they told us he did that if they left the door open. I will still follow up with the vet to see what we can do, as I don't really want to crate him during the day. I guess we have to be better about putting up gates for now!

You can be more careful with the gates, but to stop it, you will still need to start from scratch so that he will respect you. How great that you were able to give him a home! Keep us posted on his progress.

Perfect advice... it is waht you ned to do and be consistent, all humans in home need to follow this to break the behavior and teach him correctly

also had this same problem with my dog (he's a jap. spitz) he loves to roll around our carpet and at time he pees on it. it's somewhat irritating specially when i see spots on my carpet. i end up having to call professional carpet cleaners to clean 'em, however i must admit its somewhat costly so I've been wanting to train my dog the proper manners. any ideas or suggestions on how to deal with this?
