Hello I'm new here and iam desperate for help in helping my beautiful boy Bruno who suffers terrible with his feet. The vets have put him on steroids for over 2 years and he is on a hyperallergenic diet the same amount of time but he still suffers terrible flare ups. The vet says no meat and definitely not any human food which I do but it still hasn't changed what is going on. He has been on so many different tablets and still can't seem to solve the problem ,but with his obvious pain he still is a happy boy and constantly wants to play but his feet are so bad any advice would be a help.

ā€œSteroids for over 2 years and he is on a hypoallergenic diet the same amount of timeā€œ

There’s your problem, change vets. A dog needs meat. Bruno’s immune system is shot after 2 yrs of steroids. His body cant fight. If you can get him on a raw diet, he will improve. Or you can also make his meals. ā€œReal ground beefā€ patties with green beans, bone broth. I’m not sure all the availability of kibbles or freeze dry raw in England but look for OpenFarm or you can order it online. There are numerous threads on this website about other EB with same issue as Bruno. Read them and you will be on the right path.

BTW, What exactly is wrong with his feet? Photos would be great.

Attached are 2 examples of products that will boost his immune system. Raw marrow bones and liver. Raw liver as a topper on meals. Start with 60grams every 2-3rd day for a week or two. Monitor his stools. If stools are good, you can add raw liver every day.

Hello thanks for ur reply, I did mesage major banquet today regarding the raw diet and explained brunos problems they said to me they can't go against what my vets have told me and didn't recommend it due to his problems , but advised me to find a bulldog forum to see if people could advise , Bruno suffers with allergies and when ever I give him meat his problems get 100% worse even fish, and when I try to reduce his steroids he flares up again , I will attach some photos so you can see . He has seen 3 different vets now and they all keep saying the same they also told me to have allergies tested is a waste of money as it won't pinpoint an allergy, and just keep telling me to just use antifungal, antibacterial shampoos, hibbi scrub very diluted, salt water baths but the more I clean he gets red and raw again, his feet will grow the cysts on top of his paws but they are also growing underneath and will rip open and it looks like his feet underneath have been cut wide open ,but he is so happy and always wants to play.

Poor guy, that has to hurt. Do you have him on a probiotic? Have you tried a protein like kangaroo?

Thank you for the clarification. Why it’s always important when asking a question for it to be very detailed with photos if possible cause we might suggest things that only goes according to your question. Will tag other members. You may want to read this thread…..

Hello again , yes he has been on probiotics but again there all meat flavours or have chicken or beef etc etc , even his worm and flea treatments unfortunately have a meat flavour and wen he has them he is in a bad way. Bruno is very active always playing and to walk him he would go for miles and miles but his feet will pour with blood ,so unfortunately I can't take him out for long now as his feet bleed, I've put socks on him with velcro, boots but they to hard for his feet. He weighs 26kg which my vet also told me he needs to lose weight to 24 kg which is so hard when he is on steroids that make him very hungry and I can't walk him far coz his feet rip open and bleed ,I just feel so sorry for him ,when I got him he had been abused ,was riddled with worms , and was not good at all, and I honestly do believe if I hadn't of had him he wouldn't last with other people due to his problems. But he is such a happy loving boy

As far as probiotics I give my dog herbsmith microflora plus. It has no meat flavors in it, it would help his gut from the damage of the steroids

OK thank you I will look into that , Bruno is seeing the vet today to have his update on his injections so I will mention it to my vets as well. Many thanks 😊

You can also use fresh sauerkraut as a probiotic. See if you can get a novel protein from a local butcher (goat, buffalo). Seeing you are in UK .. look into Oodles it is a raw delivery

Praying for your boy..

Hello just got back from the vets , he said no way to give bruno meat of any kind , he said the amount of dogs he see with people putting there dogs on a fad idea (raw diet)who end up with sickness, diarrhoea and food poisoning, bacteria poison, He sed Bruno has an allergy to meat, regardless he is a dog whom people believe should eat meat coz he a dog and to keep him on his hyperallergenic biscuits. He now weighs 24.8kg and the vet would like him to 24kg, so I'm not sure I should go against the vets ,he sed brunos allergies are not seasonal they are food related and any change causes him flare ups that are so bad and he goes red raw.

Since he has been on steroids for over two years you will never know what allergies he has… his system is hiding it all. Have you looked for another bulldog savvy vet for a second opinion?

Bruno has been to 3 different vets , the worse was vets for pets in the UK, just after money and no help at all. Vets for pets initially put bruno on 4 prednicare aday and he got urine infections, my vets who he has now was furious he was on such a high dose and now bruno is on 1 and half aday but as soon as I try and wean him of them , another serious flare up

SOMETIMES, even though a Veterinarian keeps trying things, other (not so) ordinary people may have answers, suggestions. Many(not all) vets are there to make $ and sometimes it is a guessing game, which can become a money game. It has happened, even here, that an "unlicensed" experienced owner has the answers. Worth a try, isn't it?! Free to try....

Ever look into holistic vet? Maybe get a food and environmental allergy blood test done would guide you better. Like mentioned, 2 yrs on steroids will destroy any dog’s immune system. That’s where you need to start to rebuild his health. My previous EB Duke had cyst often. What help and heal was soak the feet in epsom salts and NuStock. They would dry the cysts out.
