“Rescued” a very overweight 4yr old EB from an elderly couple that had given him way to much table scraps, he is at an obese 98lbs. which I have him on a diet now to get at least 20lbs. off. Have had him for a bit and been doing well until a few weeks ago his breathing changed, It has been normal but lately he has been struggling will also pant heavy I’m assuming due to the breathing issue. Took him to my vet and also a 2nd vet for their opinion’s and both said same,, HE HAS TO LOSE THE WEIGHT ! I understand the assignment and working on it but neither thought X-rays were needed at the moment, my vet put him on Prednisone for his throat to help with airway. He has been great till just recently breathing issue started and I’m slightly concerned because he sounds really bad but will eventually settle down, no fainting, no tounge discoloration, not sick or throwing up, eating/drinking/pooping normal just sounds bad and activity level has decreased a lot,,, I know he is in discomfort when it happens and it scares the s*** out of me!
Would the excessive weight cause the breathing issue or should I have his throat scoped as well? I’m trying not to stress him out as he’s been through a lot
