No, cant tell where...Seems to be an all over smell?!?!?

Can you sniff and tell where the odor is coming from? Is it his feet? Face? Ears? If a bully has allergies, sometimes there is an odor that is in his coat. I would say that if you can't pinpoint a particular body part that is odorous, he probably should be checked for allergies.

anyu advice is more than welcome...
he has recently developed a bump (ontop of skin (almost like a callus or a wart) and one on his back... hair loss in that area... Planning on bringing him to the vet for that (appt next week) - should I mention anything to him about the "smell"? could one have to do with the other?

I give him timberwolf wild salmon oil. I have tried grizzly but find timber wolf to work better

please be aware that dogs do not digest flax seed the way humans do -- a much better way for both the omega 3 and 6 is Salmon oil. I recommend grizzly Salmon oil. you can find it at

it is wild caught , and also helps with shedding. my specialist recommended it for joints and arthritis.

I do use baby shampoo on his face so he does not get soap in his eyes
I will try and use for his whole body next time

I must say that Bulldogs must be kept clean, bathing weekly is better than every few months. BUT--- you do not need to use soap-- the earth bath, is not soap, and can be used a couple times a week with no issues,{also baby shampoo is gentle enough AND the right PH balance to safely and gently bath with } My dermatologist wants my foster to be bathed twice a week to keep the skin clean,{she has a bacterial infection , when I got her } that is a must with bulldogs- lest yeast get started. you can also mix apple cider vinegar/water 50/50 % and use in ears/on body parts after baths. around paws and bottoms , at least once a week for preventing yeast infections. and twice a week in ears for life, you will not have yeast infections ever .it is not the bathing that drys skin out but what you use.a oatmeal or aloe vera is a good shampoo. the only time my female eb has had an odor problem was before she had her tail amputated bc it was inverted with pockets and constantly got infected.

i really hope you find something that works for you.

Ive tried ACV and baking soda?!?!

I found my Capone to smell as well...I bathe him with oatmeal shampoo and baking soda ...ITS GREAT...

Hehehhe nopes, one bath because he stunk. I usually get him into the tub every 4 months at the very very longest! I know right now its been just over three months since his last bath and I can comfortably sleep with my head on him and can't smell anything.

Gas is never fun lol. When he was on the Chicken soup did he have the sour smell issue just as bad, worse, or not as bad?

I've never used eukanuba foods, so I can't really say much there.

What I use is Natures recipie venison and rice formula.

I do see that both chicken soup and eukanuba use chicken and fish oils as ingredients, perhaps he just doesn't do well with those?

I ask because I had to play around with Jay's food untill I found something that works. He did have that typical doggie odour when I first got him. I can also use Natural balances venison and potato formula and occasionally mix a small bag into the food tub for a bit of variety. Chicken and lamb do give him gas, and instead of fish ingredients he gets ground flax seed for the omega oils. There was also another brand I had tried that used bison and he was good with that as well but having it shipped every few weeks became inconvenient

I am curious too about how you mentioned your other intact male dog. I honestly don't know alot about what pheromones dogs excrete and why/how, but it does make me wonder.

@Lindathedogsmaid: Linda, didn't Sara smell all the time? I remember batheing her every other day, she had such a horrible fishy smell, and when I was sending her to you we got the vet check before she got on the plane and it ended up being her thyroid level was bad?

@ljds923: lj, you may also suggest to your vet to have his thyroid checked, if I am right about the above, if it does not seem to be allergies. A thyroid check in a bully is always a good idea anyway.

No the odor emanates from all the pores of the skin. and it will be a reaction to a given food. rather than any other reactions. like itching,body parts. the dog may show no other reactions than the smells.you would be wasting your money on an allergy dermatologist. as it is close to 1000.00 for those tests!
the least expensive/least evasive action is the food source!
But as I have discovered many times. the individual dog does not process the base of meat which is usually a rancid combination of meats/by-products/oils/grease from the rendering plants to make the food. You can open a bag of good food, and smell. and then open a bag of common food from a pet store/petsmart/grocery store. and smell. it will make you sick!!! and defiantly remind you of grease/stale grease!

No Lisa she did not because of the food I fed her. once a week and they were always nice smelling, yes she had to go onto thyroid pills for life but no smell once food was changed. I have never had any smell because I always have fed the top 3 foods on the market , in rating and research. but dogs can show thyroid off balance with a course dry brittle fur, or bitchiness,or temper, that is the number one symptom of a LOW --- thyroid.!!!! becoming skinny and still hungry and eating lots is a sign of over active thyroid!

Update, Louie is doing much better now, he has switched to a vegetarian diet and it seems that dog food, was indeed the culprit. Louie was sensitive to meat proteins.

please try the Fromm food instead of vegetarian food, dogs are carnivores, they need protein most of all. then fruit and veggies, very little carbs, long term veggies consumption will cause life long issues.
when the dogs have a body odor-- it is one of two things 99% of the time. poor quality food -- or a yeast infection over a major portion of the dogs body, for the yeast infection they will need a round of antibiotics, and several baths of 50/50 % apple cider vinegar/water. paws/ears/tail area/face wrinkles. but I have cleared up a German Shepard with a 80% body coverage of yeast infection coverage. odor on the body , will usually be poor quality food that has mostly meat by products (you do not want to know )with many chemicals also. please give it a try, and keep me posted.

Thanks for the info.... Louie has been on some high quality foods and some low quality...nothing seems to change for him no matter what he is on... I have even tried meat diet only and that is when he was at his worse...The veg food helps but does not keep it totally gone... he has been on many, many rounds of antibiotics...
