My Bulldog Stinks

My Louie stinks and I am looking for someone who can help
Louie is 2 years old. I give him a bath often because he stinks. I clean wrinkles and face a few times a day - also cleaning his bottom - even with a bath by the next day he stinks bad again...
It does not smell like poo but more of a stink (dirty sour smell) - VERY STRONG odor
I changed his food and switched him to spring water for drinking and soaking his food (also had a course of antibiotics) - The "smell" got better for a month or two but now it seems to be back. His tear stains are gone and have stayed gone with the spring water and new food change. He is still getting spring water and the same food he's had for a few months. Its not a little smell but he stinks up the whole house...
He acts normal and is a healthy happy bulldog...
I breed and show dogs (boxers) and have an intact male boxer and Louie is also intact (he has 5 points now) and they do not get along so they are NEVER together...
I am stumped... Ive tried calogne, baths, ACV, shamppos that are for smelly dogs, brusing, washing face often and anything that I could think of or anything that anyone suggested!
Anyone know what is going on?!?! How I can get rid of this smell?!?!? Please advise...MANY THANKS!

If I am reading correctly, you stated the smell was gone after the antibiotics?

There is no signs of yeast?

Is there any scabs on his skin?

How often are you bathing him? Just an idea, but if you bath tooooo much, his skin will get dried out and this, in return, his body will return the fight with more "natural" bully oils, which unfortunately to us, does not smell all that pleasant.

Have you asked your vet about this yet?

no scabs
no infections
was only having a bath every few months but since the smell started we have been doing a few times a month.
He was on antiboitics try try and rid tear stains...
Vet had no ideas that I had already thought of?

Next time you bathe him try giving him a soak in nuetrogena bath oil. Put a couple of tbsp in the bath water and grab a cup and continuousley dump the water on his coat until it is covered. This will seal in the moisture so he won't produce his natural oils. Worth a try anyway. He may be just dried out?

What food were you feeding, and what did you switch to?

I feed a semi great brand with no corn and limited ingredients. I talk my friends and coworkers ears off about corn free diets as I have noticed after I got my first dog Jay and switched his diet from what he was eating at the rescue he smelled better, was more active, and his breath smell actually improved. Yard cleanup was another beautiful bonus as more of the food is absorbed by him and less leaves as waste. I've luckily only washed him once because he smelled bad in two years, and I'm pretty sure he'd found something to roll in camping lol.

Hehehhe nopes, one bath because he stunk. I usually get him into the tub every 4 months at the very very longest! I know right now its been just over three months since his last bath and I can comfortably sleep with my head on him and can't smell anything.

Gas is never fun lol. When he was on the Chicken soup did he have the sour smell issue just as bad, worse, or not as bad?

I've never used eukanuba foods, so I can't really say much there.

What I use is Natures recipie venison and rice formula.

I do see that both chicken soup and eukanuba use chicken and fish oils as ingredients, perhaps he just doesn't do well with those?

I ask because I had to play around with Jay's food untill I found something that works. He did have that typical doggie odour when I first got him. I can also use Natural balances venison and potato formula and occasionally mix a small bag into the food tub for a bit of variety. Chicken and lamb do give him gas, and instead of fish ingredients he gets ground flax seed for the omega oils. There was also another brand I had tried that used bison and he was good with that as well but having it shipped every few weeks became inconvenient

I am curious too about how you mentioned your other intact male dog. I honestly don't know alot about what pheromones dogs excrete and why/how, but it does make me wonder.

I found my Capone to smell as well...I bathe him with oatmeal shampoo and baking soda ...ITS GREAT...

i hope some of the suggestions prove helpful. if anything does help, we'd love to know!

the only time my female eb has had an odor problem was before she had her tail amputated bc it was inverted with pockets and constantly got infected.

i really hope you find something that works for you.

I must say that Bulldogs must be kept clean, bathing weekly is better than every few months. BUT--- you do not need to use soap-- the earth bath, is not soap, and can be used a couple times a week with no issues,{also baby shampoo is gentle enough AND the right PH balance to safely and gently bath with } My dermatologist wants my foster to be bathed twice a week to keep the skin clean,{she has a bacterial infection , when I got her } that is a must with bulldogs- lest yeast get started. you can also mix apple cider vinegar/water 50/50 % and use in ears/on body parts after baths. around paws and bottoms , at least once a week for preventing yeast infections. and twice a week in ears for life, you will not have yeast infections ever .it is not the bathing that drys skin out but what you use.a oatmeal or aloe vera is a good shampoo. please be aware that dogs do not digest flax seed the way humans do -- a much better way for both the omega 3 and 6 is Salmon oil. I recommend grizzly Salmon oil. you can find it at

the reason dogs smell is the food usually , most dog foods use the most rancid meat products from rendering plants. and it will have all kinds of chemicals to remove the skin, and hide from the meat, what is left from the butchers, and road kill, and dead pets, from the vets!! that is what 99% of dog foods are made from. hence the smell.!!! if you wish some good foods to feed, email me at <bullysmum@gmail.com.>

Can you sniff and tell where the odor is coming from? Is it his feet? Face? Ears? If a bully has allergies, sometimes there is an odor that is in his coat. I would say that if you can't pinpoint a particular body part that is odorous, he probably should be checked for allergies.
