My baby fell out of the car :( should I be concerned?

I was just taking my baby Izzy to doggie daycare when I opened the back door of SUV and Izzy was leaning against the door and felt out of the car.... straight face down on the concrete!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :crying:

I am always super careful with her and it happened so fast!!!! She didnt scream but she got up and was whining and limping and I stayed with her until she started acting normal again but I have never felt so bad in my life. I called my boyfriend in tears because I thought she got really hurt with the fall.

Do you think that a fall like this would do any majoy harm to her bones? I am not sure how strong they are, she's 15 weeks now and she plays pretty hard and never cries about pain.

I really hope she is okay and it was just a lesson learned to always have her on the passenger seat or maybe even buy her a seat belt.

But I am still so upset... it ruined my entire happy experience to enter with her at the doggie day care for a day full of fun activities :crying:

I would probably just take a quick trip to the vet to be sure. I am sorry this happend and I too would be a mess crying. Take a deep breath and try to relax ( i know easier said than done) Im sure she is fine but it wouldnt hurt to just have her looked at

Oh so sorry . I hope he is ok. But first of all don't be so hard on yourself, it was an accident, I know we blame ourselves and feel terrible when something happens to our babies. He is ok. He's young, and bones Are still soft, just watch for limping or favouring of any of his legs, or any wincing when you touch him anywhere. I also had an accident with my baby the second day I had him. We were out in the front of the house with my neighbours, who were admiring the puppies, after the neighbours went back inside, I tried to get the puppies back In the house, I picked up Dozer because he wasn't following me, and Blossom was, as I was walking towards the house, Dozer got excited to be with his sister, and wiggled in my arms, before I knew it he had jumped out of my arms. He fell on his side of his leg onto the grass, thank god, but he started yelping immediately , the sound that came out of him was ear curdling , he cried and cried and cried for about 15 mins, my neighbour the biggest dog lover ever, came running out of the house and scooped him out of my arms , we both had tears streaming down our faces, she kept saying what did you do to my baby, what happened, I felt horrible, that I had dropped him. She was massaging his leg, and he calmed down, he was limping and then wouldn't walk on his left hind leg, he was hopping. It was evening and my vet was closed, so I called the emergency vet hospital, they told me to watch him, and if it was still the same in the morning to take him to the vet. I let him sleep beside me that night in my cats pillow bed, it was soft, and he was small. In the morning as soon as the vet opened I was parked outside the door before they even opened, I went inside with tears again, can't tell you how bad I felt

It's mistakes like this that help everybody learn, so don't beat yourself up about it.

If she is limping at all after about an hour then yes i would suggest a visit to the vet. And yes teather her harness to a seatbelt with a leash that wont let her go very far. You really should have her restrained always in the car for her safety in case of an accident.

The vet checked his hip and leg, and said she was pretty sure nothing was broken, she said their bones were still soft, but she had been fooled before and would be more comfortable taking an x-ray, she x-rayed both back legs to compare them , and after looking at them, she gave me the good news, nothing was broken, no hair line cracks, no hip dislocation, she called it a soft tissue injury. As it turned out it wasn't his hip, it was his foot part of his paw, that he had fallen on and bruised. We took him home on pain medicine, and he was pretty tired on it, he hopped on that leg for 4 days, and then started walking on it with a little limp, by the end of the week his foot was fine again. Just check for limping or favouring, and if in doubt or if something doesn't look right take him to the vet to be checked out. And don't feel so bad he'll be fine.

I would recommend taking Izzy into the vet's office to get checked out. The fact that she fell on her face/head concerns me the most and I'd want to make sure there was no damage done.

Poor girl, and poor you. I'm sure she was pretty shaken up.

Investing in a safety harness sounds like a good idea.

I should and I will start from today. Her day care is literaly 2 blocks from my house in the neighborhood so I "thought"
it would be an easy 30 second drive but I learned my lesson and will have her restrained to the seatbelt from now on.

I will keep you all updated, I stayed with her for 15 minutes until she was fine and walking normal. I touched her paw and she didnt give any sign that she was still in pain. But I am feeling pretty bad to have something bad happening to my little girl. She is tough and usually runs into walls and furniture when playing in the house so hopefully she is okay but I am keeping an eye on her and I already have her vet appointment this week for a shot and I might ask him to do a full check up on her.

I dont know if I will ever be ready to be a mother (of a human baby!) I am going to be the MOST paranoic mother ever!!!!

Your Baby should be fine. However with my girls I never chance it. I talk with my vet more than my husband. The vet is on speed dial; just in case . Belle plays so hard with my rot-pit & Shepard- wolf. She never gets hurt. But today while we were outside for a potty break she got a sticker in her foot. She cryed like her foot was getting cut off. She is a Drama Queen .

So glad your baby is doing OK, just watch him for a day or so to make sure he is acting fine and not limping. This is a good lesson learned, as they always should be restrained or crated in the car.

Hope ur baby is ok. You can buy seatbelts specialised for doggies now. Meeko has one theyr quite clever. Ot clips in to the clicky part of the seatbelt and then clips onto the harness like a normal lead and has a small length to avoid any accidents xx
