(Miami-Dade couNty, Florida) Other than Parvo, all the other vaccinations that the vet recommends I have always waived. This being my first EB, It will be interesting to read other's reply to this issue....

I did not read all the posts except your initial post so forgive me if this has been pointed out.

Bulldogs will usually not show any types of allergies until they start going through the teenage years with horomones and such in play. It could be very well conincidence that the time you changed was about the time. Also it is possible your bully is allergic to one specific ingredient in the new food you tried.

Also as they get older their folds on their face change-- the tear stains could just be the result of an every changing face. This is also why many eye specialists will not do sugeries until after the first year if possible. To make sure the head is fully formed. With bullys however their head does not reach full size until they are around two years of age!

Also seasonal allergies are generally not a nuisance until after they are around 9 months old. Your puppy may never show any signs of allergy problems until after this age.

My point of the entire post is that you really will not know what anything will do and even sometimes when you think you have found the perfect food, they can even develop an allergy later and problems can start appearing out of nowhere.

These bullies are somewhat of a puzzle, especially when they are young.

As for the Bil Jac-- YUK. No way, corn food. I think things may get worse instead of better if you switch back, even though common sense says that since he did not have problems before it would all get better.

Around 6 months - teething time. This can lead to excessive tearing as the jaw realigns, changing the skeletal structure of the dog that can then start pressing onto the tear ducts.

But, this does not explain the paw licking...

One more note on the vaccination angle... Most people think the rabies vaccine is mandatory in your province / state / city, however if you actually read the "legislation" you may find its "recommended" but your vet's recomendation superscede. Thats why I had to change vets. Here is a quote from a vet that has studied this extensively(google him too):"Every skin problem you see is due to vaccinations without fail. Later in life, arthritic situations and degenerative spinal dis-eases are the result of vaccines. The rabies vaccine in dogs and cats causes so many problems it isn't funny...personality changes, skin changes, damage to the thyroid and endrocrine systems. It lowers the immune system tremendously. The animal becomes fair game to just about any disease." John Fudens, D.V.M.


What I did was have a simple blood test done on my dogs (Titer testing) that determines the antibodies to parvo, rabies whatever to determine if they were still protected; I had them tested 2 years after their puppy vaccinations; and there levels of antibodies where very good; Vets recommendation was to test again in about 3 years.

Over here, although people think that the rabies vaccine is mandatory, my vet says that it's only mandatory to inform the person. It's up to the person if s/he'd like to administer the vaccine.

In most if not every municipality in the U.S. rabies is very much required. As it should be. We have many wild animals that carry rabies and it's very common for dogs to come in contact with them. We have personally had rabid skunks in our yard. No way would I NOT vaccinate my dog for rabies and distemper. It's irresponsible..in my opinion.

I am not pro-vaccine per say, I even have my human girls in a modified vaccination schedule, minimally and stretched out. But, I cannot risk them my dogs getting rabies. I will stretch it to the max 3 years and will not give the other yearly ones that they recommend, just the puppy series plus one more in one year to guarantee the vaccines took... My vet recommended rabies at 12 weeks, and I told her I would wait till 16 weeks, so I think they will have somewhat of a more developed immune system. They are getting it this saturday, Katara will be 17 weeks and Aldo 16..

really? I gotta look into that then, talk to my vet about it; for sure I wouldn't want to stress their immune systems if they are not ready. what age is it mandatory to get by in your city? I know we gotta have it every three years, but not sure when they need to have the first dose?

At 6 months..their first one is JUST a year vaccine. We are also required to license them at 6 months, which sucked, because Jake wasnt neutered yet so it cost double! But from now on, he will get the bargain price ! Lol...Then after that they get the 3 year one. I assume it's because they are small and my vet is pretty conservative so she prefers a lesser amount of the vaccine for that first shot. We've gotten many full grown street rescues and they get the 3 year right off the bat.

I need to correct myself. Check myself before I reck myself...

Registering your Pet with the county is what is required by law here in Miami.
Im not sure about the actual Rabies vaccination. I will find that out when I make my visit ...
