So we took Bella to the vet this evening. Itās been a roller coaster of health updates since her surgery back in September. Iāll start there as she had to have a cyst removed on her back as well as a tumorous red ball removed in her mouth back in mid September. After that she was prescribed gabapentin and another medication for her arthritis.
The last couple of weeks she has been having a hard time standing and walking and we reported this to our veterinarian last week. They told us we could stop giving her the gabapentin and they gave her a shot of Librela. This will be once a month for now with the shots.
Well, this past weekend was a terrible mess. She seemed restless and fidgety all weekend. We are up many nights over the weekend just laying beside her so she could relax. She can now barely stand with her hind leg having problems. The veterinarian looked at her today and said that she may have had a stroke over the weekend. It seems to be neurological and her whole left side of her body is malfunctioning which causes her not to be even able to stand. We are holding her just to go eat her food and get a drink. Her appetite is still there, but the veterinarian said she seems lost or confused and she does not follow with her eyes when they did the test today. She also cannot even stand to go to the bathroom so she goes in her doggy diapers which is not great but we wash regularly as well as give her baths when this happens which is every day for the most part.
So now sheās under a new medication as well as back on the 600 mg gabapentin. The new medication they prescribed is called Ellevet CBD+CBA. Sheās also on 75 mg of Flexprofin. The vet also recommended Purina Pro Plan Vet Direct which we purchased some of her food today for her to mix with her Fromms. It should be here in a couple days delivered in the veterinarian has suggested this to help with the neurological problems she is having.
Has anybody went through this before? It seems right when Bella turned 14 years old in the beginning of September everything just started going out! Weāre very concerned. Last night every two hours she was fidgety and getting tired of laying and having a lot of problems. we constantly have to flip her which the veterinarian said was good because she gets restless on each side and it will get numb. Our next vet visit is on Friday for a checkup and Iām just hoping all of this new stuff works. Iām hoping she can fight through this and come back to her normal self. I love my doggie so much. Sheās the first dog Iāve ever had and Iām lucky enough to say sheās lasted this long and has been the best doggie ever. Never hurt a fly and is just so loving! Sheās been a true rock through all of this. She wants to continue life I know, but she is fighting a lot of things right now.
This has been very hard on my mental as well as my fiancĆ©ās mental and we love her so much!! If anybody can give some support or positive stories that would be much appreciated. We love our English bulldog, Bella.
