Bulldog weight

Hi,

Just wondering what weight some of your male bullies are. Bruce has been to the vets today and is 35kg at 2 year 5 months. She has asked me to take him back in 3 months for further weighing as she is worried he is putting on a lot of weight.

Hmmmm…he doesn’t look overweight. Can you feel his ribs at all? When you look down on him, do you see a waistline? Louie is 4 and is about 60 pounds, not far at all, very fit. I have to feed him a bit more to keep the weight on him. If he weighed any less, he’d look too skinny. Every dog is different.

Bruce is a handsome fellow! Difficult to say anything about his weight from these (very good) photos, though. One would need to see him from above. As @Cbrugs says, the waistline should be visible right behind his ribcage.

The breed standard for English bulldogs is 25 kg so with that in mind, Bruce is a big boy, but he looks good. And he looks quite tall?

Has he gained a lot over the last half a year or so? Since they grow until they are 3-4, your vet might want you to watch him now so that he doesn't gain too much. Something I learned here on EBN is that they grow up the first year, and then they grow out for another 2-3 years. My Castor was a slim boy who never went above 22 kg (at Bruce's age he was under 20 kg, and still vets would tell us to make sure he didn't gain as one wants them lean as they get older). So they come in all sizes.

Thanks for the advice. Bruce is an olde english bulldogge which I believe is usually bigger and heavier than an English bulldog. His waist does go in after his rips and he has a nice shape I'll try and get a pic from above if he let's me lol

I was about to say he’s not an EB but Olde. Yes they will be bigger. Does your vet know Bruce is an Olde? Usually a belly that hangs a bit is your indicator to lose a few pounds. Always better to be on the thinner side for bullies. But like you said get a top view photo

You also have to factor in height… Bruce being and OEB, I think he looks great and a stated as long as there is some definition to waist … all good

AWWWWW such a GOOD BOY!!! and beautiful! Agreed with what has been said, bulldogs come in all sizes and yours is a tall guy, he does NOT look fat to me. My Henry is short and chubby and weights around 22 kg.

My English bulldog is 10 months old and weighs about 58 lbs. they say he isn’t fat. He is taller than most English bulldogs

Slim 77 lbs! We cannot get him to lose any weight. He is 4 years old. We have tried different foods (Fat Dog to name one). Anything different makes him start to spot and lose hair, or he will be ravenous and eat grass like a cow! I think he is bored and lazy as we work all day. Vet want him to lose also. I have tried cutting his food and adding frozen green beans, but nothing works. We love him too much to starve him. And don't tell me we are loving him to death. I think he is just a big boy.

Bo is 1 year and as of yesterday he is 75 lbs. Doesn't really look heavy but he is a hand full.

Kevin is a svelte 86lb (39kg).. He could stand to lose a few lbs.

I have to agree with what most say here. My 1st Bully, Roland, was a big boy. Taller and broad. He hit 65lbs at 8 months and leveled out at 70lbs. most of his life. He was quite portly as a puppy at 8 weeks, the largest of his litter with the roundest belly, part of my instant love for him. He was my Ginger bully. My new guy, Chunk, is considerably different. He is much smaller in everyway with a slim build. He weighs around 50-55lbs.

Bruce doesn't look a bit overweight. Good looking bullyboy. Gabe is six and weighs 64 lbs.

My Little boy is 67Lbs. but he's solid.. Not fat at all. Bruce is a great looking boy. He doesn't look overweight at all.
