Bulldog Vets?

I am wondering if a Bully vet is really necessary.

We had an old Bully Girl rescue who only lived a year but we had her teeth cleaned. cleared up a skin infection and general care.

My question is,if our Vet did well putting her under for her teeth cleaning.What does a Bully Vet know that our present Vet doesn't?

My regular vet spayed Lola fine but dismissed my thoughts on elongated palate. New vet understood, agreed, and referred me to excellent surgeon who cut out a lot of extra tissue in Lola's throat so she could finally breathe better

Doesn't need to be a bulldog vet, but an experienced one who understand and has seen some of the problems associated with the breed. You want him/her to know as much or more than you about the breed

Are bully vets absolutely necessary? I would say no as there are a lot of very good and knowledgeable vets out there. Are vets that specialize or have a lot of bully experience helpful? They absolutely can be as their experience in dealing with a lot of bullies would hone their skills with diagnosing and treating some of the weird things our babies can come down with or require treatment for. I feel that you should always use a vet that you can trust as you know they will always do the best to take care of your pup. You may run in to situations that they might not be comfortable with or you might feel a second opinion is necessary and that is ok. You just find a specialist or a bully vet in your area for those situations. On the other hand if you don't trust your vet then it's time to find a new one.

We were referred to the vet we use by many people as they are bully owners themselves and see a lot of bullies on a daily basis. Does that make them bully specialists? Not sure, but Harlea loves them so i will keep seeing them. However, they have several other vets in the same office that don't see a lot of bullies or aren't "specialized" and I would totally trust any one of them to treat Harlea if I couldn't see her regular vet.

It really helps in times when there are breed specific issues that some vets just are not knowledgable of (palate, nares, build, allergies) , but if you find a vet you trust and they are open to understanding the quirks of the breed.... personally, I am just much more comfortable knowing the vet I go to has that 'extra' experience to care for a Bulldog.

But he is also great for other breeds, equines, cattle, just about any kind of animal. Great post! I love my vet, he's the greatest. But he knows bulldogs. He has given me comparisons vs other breeds when diagnosing or giving anesthesia, medications, ect . He never just dispenses antibiotics in hopes to clear something up and also open to my theories.

Also he hates bad kibbles like I do :D

Probably safer to find one, but my experience has been the opposite. The bully experts actually knew far less. One ended up being a 70 year old guy who throws talcom powder on a puppy skin infection, as his way of "treating" it. (It needed a topical antibiotic). Another prescribed me an antibiotic that nobody has used in the vet world in over 15 years. Considered ineffective now. The list goes on and on. In the end, I have found that education level (in general) on their profession, and keeping up to date on the latest studies is far more important than "being a bulldog specialist". In fact, the ER doctor at the local pet hospital knew more than the other 6 vets I went to, combined. And he had no bulldog specialization.

The best bulldog vets are on this site So i do recommend double checking anything a doctor tells you, with the good folks here. They saved Baxters life already once.
