So, Bertha just completed yet another cycle of antibiotics for a urinary tract infection and her follow up urine came back with bacteria in it again. However, she just started her second heat so we will wait to make sure the cells are not slough from her vagina (I think I have this right, lol). We wipe her vulva, we give her daily cranberry tablets, etc. I think at this point, and the Dr was going to suggest it per the tech, it is time to try a food change to see if it is the culprit. She is on Costco Natures Domain, which has not given her (nor Arnold) any allergy problems at all so I have been hesitant to change them since their coats are beautiful, etc. Bertha has had crystals in her urine, but they are struvite not uric. I have told the vet Science Diet nor Royal Canine is an option. I am thinking a Fromm etc. Any advice is needed since she is going in next week for another ultrasound to ensure all is good. Please help @RiiSi @Twice @cowsmom @Davidh @2BullyMama desertskybulldogs

We are having good luck with the FROMM Pork and Peas.

Have you had any bullies with chronic uti's that could be food related even though not uric acid stones? I am just wondering if the quality of food or perhaps the fillers may be causing this

No,I have not, I just know its good food. Hopefully someone who has had this problem will be along soon and can share some advise.

My suggestion is Fromm's Pork n Peas...you'll like that, when I first suggested
it to a newbie, I typed it, PORN n Peas...HAHAHAHA
:wtf2:

Google "dogaware struvite crystals" and you get most of the knowledge I have of struvite crystals. You don't need to feed prescription food that's for sure.[h=1][/h]

well first off cosco natures domain food is made by diamond manufacturing who has the absolute worst track record for recalls ive ever seen so i will not feed my dogs anything from them ever but thats just me. there are better foods out there and of course fromm is one. if you tell me which one you are feeding i will try and find you a food that matches it if you would like me to

Banks UTI's were due to too much skin being in her vulva... she had to have a vulvaplasty . After that, they lessened but still had them.. I switch her to raw, that got them down to once in a while, but until I put her on Fromm Beef Friatta... that is when they totally stopped. Now she is on Pork and Peas which has almost eliminated her yeast issue. her last UTI was a couple months ago and that was at least two years from her previous one. This last one was due to all the moisture in our yard from the rain we were getting at the time. Wiping her has helped.

Oh man, I would agree with trying the Fromm line. I really think with its quality ingredients and probiotics it helps ward off bad bacteria. You may also want to try adding additional probiotics in pill form or by yogurt to help establish good bacteria.... The problem with antibiotics is they kill good and bad so even though the bad bacteria is gone so is the good to prevent reoccurrence.

I can't add to all the good advice you've been given. Poor Bertha. :(

Her skin on one side of her vulva is a little longer but nothing compared to Chloe or Banks. The cranberry tablets were not as effective as hoped by the vet so I am going to try the urinary tract health tablets suggested by Lisa as well. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!!

I hope it all works for her and she can be a healthy happy bully.
