Mitch
my puppy is always sick in his bed when we go out and leave him in his crate. Is this normal? Is this part of separation anxiety?

How old is Mitch?
What does he eat?

Might want to leave him a toy and often the ticking of a clock works. Like momā€™s heartbeat.

When you say sickā€¦ what does that entail? What is in the vomit?

  • he's 8 weeks old. - we picked him up on Sunday
  • His food is AVA from Pets at Home, which the breeder had put him on - He wolfs it down when I give it to him. 3 meals per day
  • I leave him with toys and his towel - which we always play with together
  • He's bringing back up his food then eating it again. ( I sneakily watched him this morning! but managed to get the sick before he ate it all !)

It could be he is eating too fastā€¦. If the food is kibble , place it on a baking sheet so he has to eat pieces at a time instead of gobbling. If raw or soft food flatten it out so he has to lick it up

@Mitchy_moo24 what Christine said šŸ‘

Went to look up you dog food as we donā€™t have them here. Itā€™s too high in carbs. Brown Rice, Oatmeal n Maize šŸ˜³. You need higher protein especially as a pup, fats ok high but much lower carbs or none. Puppies is very crucial to feed higher proteins, fats n calories as itā€™s where the pup will have built his immune system for later. If you can go raw, go for it. If not, look for a higher end kibble in UK, add raw liver or organs as a topper. Bit of raw is better than none. In UK, you have Acana, for puppies n single proteins. Attached is Acanaā€™s large puppy, 55lbs as adult once Mitch is an adult, gives you an example for the ratio you need to look for in fat, protein and carbs.

Acana was bought by Mars who also owns Purina which is not fit for any dogs. Too much unhealthy grains. Fit for cows not dogs. Rule of thumb for pet food, avoid anything from Purina, Royal Canine, Science Hill n grocery chain stores brands or you will be visiting your vet very often. Your vet will be happy but not your wallet. I recently emailed Acana cause its from Canada n made here in Alberta where I live. They sold but the agreement, Acana still makes the product and Mars canā€™t change ingredients. Now how long will that last? Nobody knows. For time being itā€™s still a high end product. They also make Origen which is great for puppies. Itā€™s higher in calories which all puppies need, higher in minerals too.

Your AVA šŸ‘‡ not a good ratio

Something else I thought ofā€¦ it could be anxietyā€” leave one of you dirty t-shirts with him so he has your scent.. it will calm him
