So over the last several months my blood pressure has been quite high, I am mainly seeing my arthritis Dr. and last week he wanted me to see my regular Dr. because he felt it was time for treatment. I went today to my regular Dr. who weighed me and measured me and they started this new thing with BMI (?) and according to my height and weight and the chart, the nurse told me I was overweight . She laughed because she was a little chunkier than me and told me she was in the "obese" class.
The Doc comes in does my blood pressure again and puts me on blood pressure meds AND tells me I need to loose 9 lbs. To not only lower my blood pressure, but to also put me in the right bracket.
ANY WOMEN OUT THERE KNOWS WHEN THEY NEED TO LOOSE WEIGHT, WE DONT NEED TO BE TOLD SO!!!!!! I was totally ..........so as we are leaving I am not only sad that Im so fat I have to take blood pressure meds now, I am also depressed to hear my dr. tell me so.

As we were walking out the front door and Im not speaking, Joe finally pipes up to make me feel better and says "well at least your overweight and not obese" !! NOT WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR AT THAT MOMENT... been a few hours now I have to laugh , he REALLY was trying to make me feel better. OK now time to get down and get serious, I know Im not obese, but I also know I have to get some lbs off not only for my blood pressure, but because I know I would feel so much better about myself. Starting Monday, and Oh yesssss, going to eat my guts out the next few days.........I am really going to try, I have a 2 week check up with my Doc. I want to at least lost a couple lbs. by then.

Awww you'll do it! It really has become scary these days. 30 pounds over your 'bracket weight' and you are considered obese. Sounds like your hubby was trying to cheer you up! You enjoy yourself this weekend and then get I'd of those 9 pounds...9 pounds...OMG...you are prolly stunning regardless of '9' pounds..

Sometimes men have a way!! Lol i agree do what ur comfortable with. Everything is according to " charts" these days and that is nuts. My 5 yr old was put in the " failure to thrive" catagory untill he was nearly three! Why bc according to the charts he was way under height and weight for his age, he was actually not on them for either. I was disgusted his height and weight were proportioned. However bc he was small he got labled as that. We went to numerous specialist actually untill last yr when i finally said hes been thur enough nothing is wrongnu see his devolpmental milestones are fine he is certainly "thriving" he is still small but i know my husbands family is the same my husband is 5'3 we streesed these points to the dr. Sometimes they just dont get it! My opnion is those "charts" need to be trashed!! Ok sorry to vent but that brought back a bad memory u know ur child is fine but hearing a medical professional say failure to thrive is very worrisome!

BMI is garbage if you ask me. I know both men and women that are classified as obese yet they are at like 5% body fat with the rest being muscle.

BMI is the most ridiculous thing they have ever come up with... I've been trying to diet this week, and today I had a really bad day so I made pizza w/my daughter for dinner! Everything in moderation, I say... Enjoy your weekend ; )

9 lbs seriously, and they say you are overweight? I'm sure you look great, but it's not really about how you look, but more of how you feel. 9 lbs is totally manageable and doable to lose, and if it is for health reasons, like your blood pressure, then that's way more important. You'll do great I'm sure, so enjoy yourself this weekend, and you'll have that 9 lbs off in no time. Good luck Hun, and like everyone has said everything in moderation, you can lose weight and still enjoy your favourites, or have one day as a cheat day, other wise you feel like your missing out on things, or deprived.

Husbands say the darnest things. That BMI is all about numbers-not how you you look. 9 lbs is really not much to worry about. If he said you had to lose 30 lbs then I'd freaking! You can do it! Drink lots if water with lemon. And I heard cucumber too but never tried it. All the best!

He calls me stumpy all the time. And his response when I complain about being too chubby is pretty much the same thing then too. I tell him that I tried growing more but went the wrong direction so figured it was time to stop.
