Remembrance Day in the Netherlands is held annually on 4 May in the Netherlands. It commemorates all civilians and members of the armed forces of the Kingdom of the Netherlands who have died in wars or peacekeeping missions since the outbreak of World War II.

5 May, it's Liberation Day in the Netherlands
In the Netherlands, Liberation Day (Dutch: Bevrijdingsdag) is celebrated each year on May the 5th to mark the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II.

During WWII, my maternal grandfather was in the Dutch Navy and became a POW in a Japanese occupied concentration camp in Indonesia. I never knew him b/c he died in the camp in 1942. I will especially be thinking of my grandfather on May 4th.
