Help Needed! UPDATE on Winston's eyes...

As always guys Thanks so much for your input... it always helps to see what others think about your situation
I asked my vet for a referral to an eye specialist in Nashville, which he seemed fine with... and I plan on looking for a new vet, I have some names of people in mind to check out. Not sure if they have a lot of experience w/bully's but hopefully the local rescue can give me some names. This is one reason I HATE living outside a major city, so hard to find good local docs...

I agree with both surgeries at the same time. I hate that you are so stressed about this and for peace of mind, if nothing else, a second opinion is definitely in order. Sending positive thoughts your way

I really hope you'll find a vet you feel comfortable with, I can't even imagine how hard it must be for you going through this Maybe if you get a second opinion they will suggest something different than surgery... I've been very straight with our vet, I tell them I stress and the reason why. They are so nice and they explain to me what's going on and the reasons why I don't need to stress. I still feel sick when leaving them at the hospital though but it helps having a vet that understands

And to me my skin & fur kids are the MOST important things in my life, I have to completely trust their doctors 100%. I'm a worrier too, which doesn't seem to help matters either... sigh...

Tracey, Not sure if this was mentioned but did you look into the University of Tennessee...they have a College of Veterinary Medicine, i was reading. Perhaps that would be a good resource for you to look into? Meanwhile, give Winston a big smooch from us. Thinking of you guys!

Thanks Henny, actually @BlueberrysMom had sent me the info for UT!!! I may call them to see what they say... I'm definitely taking him to the eye specialist to get their opinion. I can't THANK YOU guys enough for all the help & support you have given me & Winston!!!

Bet just admitting to yourself you've lost trust in this vet and deciding
to get that 2nd opinion feels better. It's fine to trust your instincts...
the vet messed up not you! It's also hard to go elsewhere when you are
a nice person and don't want to hurt feelings but it's just business to
them and it happens all the time...just go forward my dear, it's all good

I'm a "worrier" too, it sucks I can't even leave the house for an hour without worrying it will burn down or anything else crazy that is so unlikely to happen. I go through such struggle, putting them each in their own rooms so they wont fight, even thought they very rarely do. Stare at the stove for 5 minutes to make SURE it's off and I turn the main switch to the house off... I'm crazy I have to double check everything all the time and nothing bad has ever happened to me so I have no reason to be this insane

You have all the right to worry but also seeing this from an outside kind of way... this is completely different. If Winston is healthy there is no reason why he wouldn't do well during the operation if it's needed. I'll ask our vet in December how deep they have to sedate her for the burning thingy, but if she needs it they're gonna do it at the same time as her hips are getting done... she's booked for December 23. I'm stressing already, if anything happens to her I'll cancel x-mas for the rest of my life. I do know though that certain things needs to be done for her to be happy, but it's still hard... right?

How long is it still before Winston turns 1 year old? Didn't the vet say it should wait till he's over 1 year?

Winston is healthy, but most of my anxiety stems from Bella dying after her spay... a normal procedure I was in NO way prepared for that news...

Winston will be a year old on Dec 14th, so I do have some time. I just know how crazy the holidays get so I would like to have a head start on this to get ready... mentally that is!!!

See it's good we're a "little" OCD no one else would notice the stove being on... My husband doesn't focus on such stuff either... he just gets up from his chair and says I'm going to bed and goes to bed, lol, not even asking me if he needs to lock or take dogs out or anything. Same when leaving the house, he just goes out and sits in the car and wonders why I'm taking so long... I'm like SERIOUSLY!!! They're living the good clueless life

I believe Boeboe will be fine, she's done really well under operations in the past but as you say... there is always these thoughts about "what if", I hope the vet says she doesn't need the hip operation yet but also it's a bigger risk doing it the older she gets... It's really so hard when wanting to protect and doing what's best for them isn't the same thing

I think by December you'll feel better about this whole thing, it's really not a big operation and it may not be needed at all It is so great to have this forum, everyone is really here for the best of our furkids and it's rare to find a place where you get support even when you mess up like I did when my kids found glass in the garden. I felt SO bad for not checking properly before letting them out but you made me feel better about it Thank you for that
