I've just been told that my 2 1/2 year English bulldog has a torn ACL. My question that I want to put out there is..........Who's had this done and what should I expect? I've heard that there are different ways to go about fixing a torn ACL. I have done my research and I've chosen a board Certified Surgeon out of Seattle. Can anyone share with me their experience? Any suggestions............any heads up..........any advice.

Thanks

My english bully torn his cruciate in 2006...what procedure did you decide on?...I did the traditional repair and he recovered withouth any trouble.

our bully "Winnie" had hers done in '03 with a line similar to fishing line. (the vet told us) she recovered with no problems.

she did have a cast on her leg for a couple weeks but she didn't care, she just got spoiled more! LOL

Griffin had his CCL repaired his was torn very bad and would not heal with rest..he had TTO done and has a metal plate on the bone...its been almost 4 yrs and never had a problem...it required 8 wks of rest and using a sling to help him get around and it was expensive but it worked for us...

My bullie, Bailie, tore her ACL in January in the snow. She had just turned a year old. The day she was supposed to get operated on - she came down with an upper respiratory infection. So, needless to say, they couldn't do the surgery. It is now May and she never had the surgery done mostly due to 3 more upper respiratory infections after that but she runs on her leg as well as she did before she tore the ACL. She jumps up on the furniture, runs up and down the stairs, runs all over the place outside. So, needless to say I am not doing the surgery. For 2 - 3 months, I did have to carry her around to get her in and out of the house for potty breaks and made her rest alot. So, fingers crossed, I am leaving well enough alone.:)

We actually had a consultation with the surgeon that we just cancelled, not realizing is was Memorial Day weekend. We are hoping the surgeon with go over our options.......who knows, he may not need anything. I hope that this consultation with the specialist will be more forthcoming than the original vet who diagnosed him. We have been trying to keep him calm and we TRY to keep him settled, but when you have a sister like Orion, that's almost impossible. He manages the stairs well. He manages the furniture well. He loves to run in the backyard.......but when he stands still (like when he's eating) you can see that he is favoring his left leg.
