image.jpgJust noticed Maddie's right hind paw pad looked funny. There is an area that is yellow and looks like thick hair. Did a little research and think it is digital hyper keratosis. Checked her other paw pads and it seems to be starting on two other paws. Not getting much info about treatment other than trimming the areas. It doesn't seem to be causing her discomfort yet. Anyone have any experience with this? I would like to treat it now before it gets to the point of needing to be trimmed.

Sorry. I've never experienced this. Lets tag Davidh and Sherry

Don't know that much about it other than it can be caused by trauma to the foot pad or by the canine distemper virus. The only way to be sure is let your vet take a look at it.

Is that pic upside-down??? LOL Im sorry, I dont know about it but it doesnt look bad to me. Matter of fact it looks like HRH's feet. She is 6 years old and her feet looked like that when she came here to rule at 3 yr. old. Her vet has never mentioned it. Please let me know what you find out about it.

It's common actually, it's an overgrowth of what makes the paw pad hard. i think Bulldogs get it more because they down get their paws filed down from long walks and such like other dogs do.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think it happens on the nose too on some older dogs. It's treated like a yeast infection. Pickle the feet. There's a recipe for that on this site. check in search's

Banks has this on her back paws too.... I user Mushers Secret to try and keep them soft. but it is very common and does not hurt or harm them in anyway.

Gumbo has this also. I was wondering if I could trim it off her paws. Her skin around it is very pretty but this stuff never seems to come off.
