Painful spondylitis of the spine

TyTysmom......Thank you for asking.....he's not showing any improvement, sadly :( I just re-read your post about Tyson and his meds and laser treatments----how is he doing these days? :)

He's now been
on Prednisone and Antibiotic for almost two months. Depending on his next exam and Xrays, he MIGHT
be continued on both meds for another month. This vet is a bulldog specialist----he is EXCELLENT, so of
course, we totally trust him. We look forward to sweet Meaty NOT being on Prednisone anymore!

He's also getting glucosamine/ condroiton supplements, and we'll ask the vet about some laser treatments and future meds.

Thanks for the update. Tyson's been on the Galliprant for a week & half now. Seems to be doing well so we'll be switching him over to it from Rimadyl. The rimadyl is known for causing liver/kidney issues so I'd rather pick something safer for him. Of course safer also means double the price [emoji30][emoji30][emoji30]

Oh the things we do for our babies. I pray Meaty starts to improve soon, it's wonderful having a great vet. Praying that they find the perfect combo for him. He's such a sweet boy. Please give him a huge hug from me!!!!

Has the vet thought about using alternative meds and moving off the pred?

Will laser help at all?

Hello.....I APPRECIATE everybully's replies so far !!! Hoping to see if anybully else has experience with this?
2BullyMama....At Meaty's next appointment, we'll ask about Laser treatments....this vet DOES have laser--there was a time
when I took Meaty for laser treatments for his poor EARS three times a week, and it helped. I'm actually surprized the vet
hasn't mentioned it for his spine, though? We cannot WAIT for poor Meaty to be OFF of the Prednisone !!!

Until we see updated x-rays at Meaty's next visit in 2 weeks, we don't know what the vet's plan is. We'll also go to our other vet that we trust (and love!) and see what he says. I'm praying / hoping that some (or ALL) of the meds and laser treatmetns all of you have mentioned (Tramadol, Gabepentin, etc). will help our sweet guy! Thanks again, everybully!

I swear by the laser... it really does help. keep us posted and we'll continue to pray for your sweet guy.

Thank you, 2BullyMama! Prayer is so appreciated---same to your babies, and all the others that need prayers !!!! :)

Hoping there are others who have info / experience with this.......thank you! :)

I appreciate everybullys' input! :)

UPDATE: Well, it's been a lonnnng time of treatment, and the vet also started him on laser therapy, but it didn't help :( He was recently started on Metacam (aka Mobic), but it doesn't seem to be helping. Several of you mentioned Neurontin; I'll see if our vet would want to try that? I also wonder if Galliprant might be better for pain, since it has fewer side effects than the Metacam.

For time being as we say. Prep yourself a little mix of essential oils.

1oz of fractionated coconut oil the clear one as CO is an anti inflammatory and add a good 8-10drops of frankincense oil..potent supplement that helps reduce inflammation. It’s considered comparable to NSAID pain relievers. Then massage the pain area. Other beneficial essential oils for arthritis that can be used in similar ways include myrrh, turmeric, ginger, orange, peppermint and lavender oils.

There's an oil already mix for you called Thieves. You can get in as oil.or balm. GREAT STUFF!!

Also add to your dog's food tumeric 1/4 teasppon and ginger 1/4 teaspoon asap.

Is he over weight? Hard on joints. If he can walk as exercise would be great. People think once you have arthritis we are limited to exercises. Humans nust like pets we need to move and not sit there.
