Olde English Bully and ACL tear

My 8 year old, Duncan, recently was diagnosed with probable ACL tear, He is limping but the "canine advil" is helping. I will have xrays done in 2 weeks during his re-evaluation. Obviously I am very concerned about his breathing if he needs surgery. Pros and Cons of ACL surgery???

Does he struggle to breathe now?
Has he had bloodwork lately?
Is he kennel trained?

If it's anesthesia your worried about, ask what kind of experience the vet has with operating on bulldogs,
