Hi everyone! I just got my first english bulldog in June, Bentley is 4 months old. I'm having difficulty potty training him and I need some advice. He also has cherry eye in his left eye, and I was hoping to get some advice on which correctional procedure is best and anyone's experiences/outcomes with surgery to fix it.
When I first got him at 9 weeks, he would poop almost constantly and he never looked like he knew when he had to go. He had worms when I first got him at 9 weeks and he was treated for them. Bentley would also poop in his sleep (while he is sleeping, doesn't wake up) almost every night at first, and still does it from time to time now. He never squats outside, just keeps walking when he poops. The vet said this was a common side effect from having worms and I should see improvements after the worms were treated and with some potty training.
Bentley constantly dribbles urine as well, and the only time he seems to really hold his urine is when I take him out of the crate first thing in the morning and go straight outside to pee. I take him out very often, at least every 45min-1hr. This has been an issue since I got him.
Every time I take him to the vet for vaccines and screenings (about every 3 weeks) I ask the vet if she's sure there's nothing wrong with him and why it doesn't seem like he understands when he has to pee or poop. He has had rectal exams and I was told everything was intact and developed properly.
Any advice from anyone? Will the urine dribbling improve once he is neutered? I keep getting told to give him time to mature and develop more, but I've never had a dog with these types of problems and this is my first male dog.
any help/advice/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
