What is the most common name for BBDs? I think in the UK, Winston or Churchill, at one time was up there, but not to sure now. Just for curiosity, I looked at some Rescue sites yesterday, there seem to be more BBDs than any other breed, makes me SAD and ANGRY. I wonder how many Pups are going to be sold for Xmas presents, and were will they be in 12mths time. When I look at Jeffo I think how lucky we both are.

So true… here in US the rescues and shelters are bursting at seems and I pray people wake up and stop buying from horrible breeders for any dog breed

Sadly, it’s like a few years ago the shelters were full of staffys because they were the current ā€œstatusā€ dogs. Now it’s the bullys turn. That will be changing in the next 12 months as the cane corso is the latest upcoming breed.
It’s heartbreaking, these dogs become popular so everyone starts to breed and buy them, then they breed them byb style and get rid of them or decide they can’t be bothered with the ā€œI’m hardā€ dog . My daughter and her partner volunteer at a small dog rescue and the things they see and hear are heartbreaking.

We get more surrenders this time of year(30 days leading up to Christmas) than any other time. Next would be late spring and early summer(leading up to family vacation time). It really is sad that people dump their old/older pet to make room for the new puppy. And the lies that owners(not all...but most surrendering parties) tell when they give up a dog would surprise you. Disgusting behavior.
To answer the original question, we get more boys named Dozer, Tank, Roscoe, Rocky, Bruno, Max, and the aforementioned, Winston.

I assume you are involved in rescue, hats off to you, I'm well retired from working life. I tried doing some voluntary work at a Rescue centre, I lasted about six weeks, I got so angry one night when a dog was brought back, after being rehomed, and left outside tied to the railings with a note on his collar with a feeble excuse blaming the dog. When we went to pick up Jeffo, we had about an hour to wait, so we had a look around, and one thing struck me, all the Dogs seem to have that same look in their eyes sadness. Good Luck if you are involved in Rescue, and Thank You!

My wife and I have been rescuing Bulldogs for 25+ years. Bulldog rescue brought us together. It's been quite a ride and we've seen it all over the years. I regret that we've dialed the rescue way back since COVID...as we've gotten...OLDER, and less able to meet the physical demands of 50-60 dogs per year. We now do 5-10 and that can sometimes be taxing. I'll continue rescue as long as I'm able. It has made my life more complete.

Well done to you and your wife(y) I do understand what you say about the years rolling on though:)

That’s amazing and thankyou on behalf of all those dogs you’ve helped. I wish I were in a position to be able to do what you and your wife do, and especially for a breed so misunderstood and maligned
