Making the switch to Taste of the Wild!

I bought the dog food hours ago, but I'm still excited. I had visited Tractor Supply Co, which I normally rarely visit. As I was browsing the dog section I was in awe to see bags of Taste of the Wild. I nearly squealed! So Sadie and Jay are being switched to the prairie formula to see how it goes. If either have problems the fish formula will be my next choice.

I also was thrilled that the 15lb bag we purchased was actually 7 dollars cheaper than the same weight bags of our previous three star food. It was 5 dollars cheaper than 5 star wellness super mix that we were originally planning on switching them to.

I was just disappointed that they had baby chicks... I really had to work to talk myself out of that...I loves chickens lol!

Excellent! What is the protien content of TOTW? Just curious. I was looking at foods today and noticed a lot of the better brands had really high protein, I hear that is not good for bullies.?? I wish I could find that here! I will eventually, just gotta find out who and where!

TOTW high prarie is 32% protein. From what I have read high protein can effect kidneys and livers of dogs that already have a condition, but won't cause a condition. No solid evidence out there either way unfortunately.

I have also been told several times now that too much protein is not good for BULLDOGS. Other breeds are fine with it, and with bullies I believe it has something to do with their growth and size, build. Lets all investigate this more, I would really like to know. I know most of the best foods out there are high protein, but again, that is for the average dog-

You know the ones that are not man made like bulldogs are.

We use Royal Canine for bulldogs which is shaped especially for their snouts (or lack of). A 40 lb bag at Petco is $52.99. Which brand would be better?

What the vet told me is feeding in excess amounts can cause weight gain for bulldogs, but other than that there is no danger with their food. She stated that exercise is essential no matter what the breed of dog and to monitor what I feed in two small meals a day.

That is good to hear. I would not have thought there was a danger, but I know it has something to do with their growth stage. Something about the protein makes them grow too fast, not sure exactly though!!! I am sure we will get more responses on this eventually, I will continue to post it on facebook throughout the day. Sometimes they get lost in the news feed, too many friends of bully lovers! I also sent an email to Lindathedogsmaid, she really knows about food.

Margie Foley I disagree with the puppy levels of protein they have on the chart . To much protein in Bulldog puppies can cause the legs to deform

Susan Abner Margie I whole heartedly agree! I bought a beautiful male show prospect, my Nitro, and he developed fiddle front around 5 to 6 mos. old. He grew and developed too fast which put too much weight and strain on his front legs. I was devastated! Now I put pups on adult food by 3 mos. so their rate of growth is slower. I'm in the process of trying to produce my own next show prospect. You have beautiful dogs by the way Margie!!

Sadie is a 2 year old adult dog. All info points to high protein problems with puppies but I'm not finding anything concrete on adult bulldogs. The vet on call did specifically ask that she was an adult dog.

We had used totw some time back and my boys were loving it but Cutty's allergies forced us to switch. If I remember correctly the fish one was giving him acid reflux we think cuz he would just spit up food randomly out of the blue, very odd. Hope it works for you, it does seem to be a great food. (for adults I guess anyhow)
