Looks like we're getting a bulldog

Royal canin is full of corn meal and fillers plus the chicken can also cause allergy problems. Unfortunately Iams isn't much better, personally I'd look for healthier options. Can save you down the road in vet bills. Beautiful pup
Blue Buffalo any good?

Rule of thumb, avoid any brand from Purina, Royal Canin, Science Hill, Iams…

When we have a puppy, they basically just got off mom’s milk. So in a nutshell, puppies have a very strong immune system. Why, whatever you feed them, you need to keep their immune system strong. Raw would be the best. But if you can’t, stick to one protein per bag. In 2months, change proteins etc etc. like that, your puppy will grow up without food allergies. Yes do give chicken. Potatoes, rice are starches so avoid them. A very good quality kibble is Acana. They’ve been bought by Mars but I know Mars hasn’t altered the kibble which they’re known to use fillers for dogs n even humans. Zignature is also good. Or go with what @Dmrock mentioned. Great products. Stay away from vet’s preferences cause you will be visiting that vet often.

Keep the photos coming. šŸ‘

I did notice the arcana that I looked at contained sweet potatoes. Should that be a concern for them?

Zignature is a good choice as it has a selection of proteins and none of the common allergens. I also like Farmina. Best rule of thumb is stay away from the big companies like Mars, Nestle, Purina. You will be surprised what dog foods they manufacture! Always check who the manufacturer is to be safe. Good luck with your pup.

If you look at the % of these other ingredients, they are very minimal. And it’s not all their bags that have sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes have less starch than regular potatoes. Like legumes, if I’m not mistaken, it’s like 2% in a portion. A few years ago we did the calculation on these ingredients. Example approximately 70% comes from animal protein, 30% plant ingredients and nutrients. Meaning the 30% is not all plant but also : fish oil, salt, dried kelp, vitamin E supplement, zinc proteinate, taurine, mixed tocopherols (preservative), vitamin A supplement, vitamin D3 supplement, dried chicory root, niacin, thiamine mononitrate, calcium pantothenate, pyridoxine hydrochloride, riboflavin, folic acid, vitamin B12 supplement, copper proteinate, citric acid (preservative), vinegar, rosemary extract, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried Bifidobacterium animalis fermentation product, dried Lactobacillus casei fermentation product.

So basically they calculate minerals and supplements in their 30%. Why the % of these 30% ingredients are low. That being said, yes, raw is way better but not convenient for all pet owners.
