Long time no see (literally)

Hi everyone! Me and bear are back and could be better. This new format isn't my favorite but my love for bear has pushed me to get over it. So bear has been great, he's now 50 pounds and 11 months old. He's had a few vet issues but most could be fixed with a very expensive allergy shot! Anyway bear for the past few weeks has had a bit of an eye problem, he was having more watery eyes on the left side and started squinting it. Our vet prescribed some drops and then switched over to some new ones without steroids. But bears eye is just getting worse and worse. Sometimes he walks around with it closed, we're going to take him back up to the vet as what I assume is a corneal ulcer. I just want to know anyones thoughts or if anyone has had the same experience or even recommendations of eye care supplements! Thank you the boxes are the eye drop prescriptions the left is the first and the second is the most recent!

hey there! bear has such a sweet face.... the eye, could be his lashes are turned in, did the vet check those? Did they check for a scratched/cut cornea ? Cheli has had two of those and they take weeks to heal with many drops and ointments during that time.

I'm dealing w/eye issues w/BOTH of mine right now... Willow has an ulcer, that she got while rubbing our artificial tree, and Walter's eye has been bloodshot red from what I would assume is allergies. Ugh... I'm over it!!!

Our vet has been with bear since his parvo and knows him really well, we had brought him in for his eyes and she did a quick look over but couldn't get much looked at because they were busy and bear is so excited when we go there wasn't enough people to hold him down. So she prescribed the first bottle for a week only but stop it if he's squinting (at the time it was just a little red and mildly watery) I thought it helped but apparently it didn't. We go back for his allergies and that bill was about $300 for everything so she didn't want to put a examination fee and all that on top of what it would be to check it. (Still it wasn't as bad as it is now) it was just a bit squinty at that point. So she prescribed the second bottle and it got better after a week but here in Houston the weather has been flip flopping from cold to hot and our neighborhood is a new development and they started construction behind the house knocking down a bunch of plants so I think the weather with allergies and a possible scratch are what's happening but we're calling to see if there's an opening tomorrow for his vet, they usually make space for him. Wow an essay lol. Also a photo of bear with the stockings!

There is a yellow dye they put in the eye to see cuts/scratches... hopefully that is the plan when you go back in. Keep us posted

I hope Bear's eye issues are getting sorted out. Take anything concerning the eye seriously. I take Buster to a veterinary ophthalmologist for his eyes and can recommend two in different parts of Houston if you are interested. Buster's right eye was in horrible shape when we got him. He had surgery to resolve the eyelash problem immediately but the damage had already been done. A few months later, he was horsing around with my other dog, bumped it and couldn't keep it open. We took him to a local vet and there he walked into a doorjamb and ruptured that eye. $$$$$ and a corneal transplant later, we saved the eye but he has minimal sight out of it. I do not go to the Dr that did the surgery (although he did a fine job) as their prices for drops are out of sight. Good luck and just let me know if you need the recommendations.

It would likely cost more $$$ but I'd get him to a specialist and have him evaluated for distichiasis or entropion. A corneal abrasion or ulcer is nothing to mess around with. If it goes too long you may be looking at a perforation and possible need for a graft.

Yes please!! We have a great vet in the fulshear area but want a good group of specialists for if/when things happen! I love his vet but I know gp's can only do so much!

It’s extremely cold n windy so far this Dec so the redness in his eye is harder to heal. But most definitely like Chip said, have his eye properly checked. If Jake’s eye doesnt go back to normal this week I’ll have him see a specialist.

Same with bear, weirdly enough he seems to be having a better time the last few days, hes holding his eye open a lot more and it's looking really clear. We're still planning on getting him to the vet asap so we can get it all checked out and good to go!

I agree with seeing (no pun intended) a puppy opthamologist. Jewel has dry eye, gets eye bodies, and has allergies.

The box on the left is a steroid eye drop and was used on Jewel's eye ulcer. We have to use Tacrolimus daily for dry eye. Expensive stuff. We found Stokes Pharmacy is the cheapest and you need a script from the vet.

Yes please!! We have a great vet in the fulshear area but want a good group of specialists for if/when things happen! I love his vet but I know gp's can only do so much!

@Sidxeyx I am sorry I missed this earlier. The one I use is on Campbell Rd. It is not very inspiring inside or out but as long as they treat my boy well I don't care! Let us know how it works out. Always good to get another opinion!

So sorry that Bear is going through this. Joey had 4 grid keratotomy procedures, 2 each eye, to heal her corneal ulcers. One was caused by a scratch on her eye the other just appeared. She saw her vet weekly from October 2020 through February 2021 and then again July 2021 until September 2021. She had the stain test most visits to check healing and initial extent. I’m happy to help f I can. This is a long process but totally worth it! Her eyes are great and tear stains gone too, no more extensive tears. Please reach out anytime!
