Large patches of hair missing

Hi everyone my Bully Winston and I are new to the site and was curious if anyone has had issues with large swatches of hair falling out on their Bulldogs sides or flanks? Our vet tells us it’s allergies and we have him on immune theory but I’m not convinced that’s it and his hair hasn’t grown back . Just wondering has anyone else experienced this and if so how long did it take for the hair to grow back.

Hi my male went through a period where he was loosing hair in patches but he had like crusty skin the vet told me bulldogs don’t have sweat glands in there body just there pads n tongue if I’m not mistaking & that there called hot spots he shaved him & god did it look bad for a month I used spray called bannixx & kept him lathered with oitmdnt that kept moisture out & a month later he’s good to go

If the skin looks black where the hair loss is, it is seasonal aloepecia. The hair usually eventually grows back. Sometimes it stays dark and thinner. Some give melatonin. It is a pretty normal thing for a bullie. No meds will help.

Yes the skin looks kind of a gray black from the reading I’ve done I come up with the same thing the vet specialist says he kas allergies to multiple things one being yeast and that is the cause. He doesn’t seem to be in pain or discomfort but I just want it to grow back it’s been months

It sounds like Seasonal Flank Alopecia to me but without pictures, hard to tell. It is cosmetic and harmless. It often goes away on its own, sometimes it doesn't. It never did grow back on Monty's one side. Google it and you will see loads of pictures and articles about it.

No they did a allergy panel via blood gave us the list of all he’s allergic too and now we basically inject him with the very things he’s allergic to in ever increasing doses for a year . Immunotherapy so it’s called. My wife did the actual visits as I work always

The immunotherapy injections work well(my dog still gets them), it takes time to work though, if you just started the injections it can take a few months to notice some results but the full effect can take up to 6 months but you would see benefits before then. It helps the immune system to stop reacting to those specific things in the environment. Food allergies and immune boost is done they improving food.
Raw diet is best. It boost the immune system(even a higher quality kibble can do this) and then rotate proteins so they can’t become allergic to what they eat every day.

What food is she on? Brand and protein???

Any allergies need to boost the immune system and the injections will help with environmental allergies.

Thank you yea the Doc said it’s take a year for full benefit we did the whole food trial everything.. he eats a Blue Mountain kibble supplemented with a wet food same brand I think we did much experimenting sendwith food to get to where we are. My only concern is the hair growing back

Hello! Yes I am currently experiencing the same thing and was told on this site that Gracie Lu's looks like Seasonal Flank aloepecia. I posted pics of my pup and I am sure that is what it is. I am giving her Melatonin now.

My 7 year old male, Cecil, does this every year when it gets hot. My vet suggested coconut oil. 1 tablespoon a day. Cecil weighs 55lbs. I don’t know what the dosage would be for your pup. It works like a charm for us. I just mix it in his dry food. He seems not to even notice. When it cools off we stop until the next late Spring/Summer. Might be worth asking. Hope you get som relief.

How long does it take ? Because based on my research that’s exactly what I thought it was but the specialist says allergies to the yeast on his body . Let me ask it this way is it possible that allergies can cause the same hair loss in the same areas as Alopecia? My concern is this that we aren’t treating him properly we are doing Immuno therapy when we should be treating Wintz for Alopecia if such a thing exist.
