Hello everyone,

Our Boo has hip dysplacia :(

Last Sunday, out of the blue, he started hobbling on left hind leg. We took him to the vet and had him x-ray'd. The x-ray revealed his hips are very loose. We are taking him to a specialist tonight. He may need a total hip replacement! On both sides!

Sheez! He's already had surgery in left knee for luxating patella. He's currently on pain killers and still hobbling around.

This is very distressing, he's only 2 years old.

Any body out there with any advice?

Gloria

I have no experience but have read about it here way too much. Poor Boo....:(

Im sure sheshistory will be around soon!

Where to start...first, bulldogs cannot have hip replacements. The prosthetics are not made for the bulldog's unique shape.

Second, I would read this article I wrote about bulldogs and hip dysplasia. It may answer a lot of your questions.

It's great you are seeing a specialist so hopefully you'll get some answers and if you have any more specific questions, don't hesitate to ask! I've been through this and I know it's tough!

Thanks @sheshistory.Bruno is in the hands of the surgeon now. He is having hip replacement surgery today. I read the article you posted and now I'm even more nervous and confused. Our surgeon, who is the best in the business, did not mention this about bulldogs and hip replacements. Without it, he said, Bruno will suffer with arthritis. He will need surgery on the other hip after he makes a recovery from the left hip.

I'm going to call him now to talk about this article.

Thanks :(
