Help just over the past few weeks my bulldog has gotten these large bald spots on the side of her body... they are kinda squiggly spots and sent completely bald but obviously balding... she is only one and a half and is super healthy so I'm not sure what's the matter

Seasonal Flank Alopecia by the sounds of it. Does the skin look black underneath? It is nothing to worry about and several breeds of dogs are susceptible to it. My Monty has a mild case at the moment. Post a picture if you can so we can tell for sure.

It's the only picture I have but you can see a round spot on his ribcage.

Sounds like seasonal flank alopecia... Gunner gets this too. Usually with a season change such as coming out of winter and into spring. I can already see the pattern forming on his side. Hair will go missing and his skin will be dark/black where the hair was.

All 3 of my bullies use to get that until I started giving them melatonin 5 mg. From September to March . They have never had it since. It works great.

My Tyson gets it every spring. How much melatonin? Pill? He is 110lbs.

Our 60 lb bully Lenny also developed alopecia ...the vet recommended 10-12 mg, 3 times a day--we think this sounds like SO MUCH!! So, when you gave the 5mg--was it once a day? and what time of day did you give it? (did it make your dogs more sleepy?? Is that even possible? lol) How soon until you saw hair growing back? Thanks!

Dudley had a small patch of this when he was about a year old, took a good 6/7 months to go completely.

If is is SFA... 1200 mg of fish 2x a day helped Lambeau. Some use melatonin but it didn’t work for Lambeau.

I switched to raw food in December and so far no SFA has returned

I gave my guys the melatonin once a day 5mg. at dinner time each weigh about 60 lbs. I think that is all they need. I have been doing it for the last 4 yrs. And they have never lost any more hair.
