I looked for articles about Dry Eye but I didn't find any. Does anyone's bulldog here have dry eye? If so could you give me some symptoms? I think Ruthie might have dry eye, she has ulcer's on them already but her right one crusts up and has a ton of junk in it. Our vet said it's due to the ulcers but I think it's something more long term. If i use drops, antibiotic ointment it goes away but then comes back pretty quickly. Any at home treatments, something to help soothe it? THANKS!!!!

Vikinggirl just posted an excellent thread last week on dry eye, let me see if I can find it !

Your vet should have given you a gel to use for the dry eyes. We used it on Jewel when she had an ulcerated eye, but I can't think of the name of it.

JennieS There's a simple test they do that determines if your dog has dry eye, Blue had it done before his cherry eye surgery.

It's called the Schirmer tear test (i could of spelled it wrong). It measures tear production. It takes less than a minute to do and they know right away.

I have a numbing gel and antibiotic ointment for her but that is for her ulcers.

Thank you! Her vet does a dye test with her ulcers. I'm going to call and make her an appt. My poor little girl just can't catch a break.

JennieS when you go to the vet ask him about a lubricating gel to use for her eyes.

OK, I talked to the vet, he wants to make sure it's not her ulcers acting up so gave me some more antibiotic ointment for right now. If they don't get better in the next few days we are going in.

Stubborn vet, he should have given you the lubricating gel too, but I hope this will help.

David -- could she use the lubricating drops you can get for humans at like Target or CVS?

2BullyMama Christine, I'm not sure, I guess you could, I never have. None of ours needs the drops anymore. Jewels eye has gotten better.
